Abstract

A flood barrier for an air grate consists of a polycarbonate face plate 1, a rubber seal 3 and a square drain pipe 2. The face plate can be bolted over the air brick.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
Air Grate Flood Cover A combination of vacuum and bolt assembly system that"encases"an air grate to stop water from entering the wall cavity via the air grate thus stopping immeasurable long term structural damage during flooding.
By using a combination of 4"rawlbotts"and a vacuum seal the flood cover is bolted over the air grate. The water/flood pressure pushing the seal tighter onto the wall to form a watertight cover (cement will be placed into grouted area between bricks where seal touches to form a flat surface approx 3"across) whilst an extraction pipe enables the wall cavity to collect/dispel air.
The pipe (standard square drainpipe) can be altered and can vary in length according to flood levels.
The unit can be removed during summer months or when flood alert is not prevalent.
There are no mechanical parts, can be self assembled and fitted within 10 mins using only a drill (including hammer action) and 18mm spanner. It is cheap with 50% of materials available from any major D. I. Y store.
All parts upon assembly are sealed using waterproof adhesive, the bolts have a rubber washer on them and are a tight fit thru the polycarbonate face plate Fig 1. Polycarbonate Face Plate. Material chosen due to rigidity and longetivity.
Easy to machine. This is the only machined part of product. Recess around edge to accomodate rubber seal Fig 2. Standard drainpipe with square (90*) shoe at bottom, fitting through centre of"face plate"and sealed using waterproof material. Various lengths can be used dependant on depth of flood.
Fig 3. Rubber seal fits onto edge of Face Plate and provides a seal when pulled onto wall Fig 4. Standard 10mm rawlbolt with rubber washer

Claims (3)

  1. Claims 1 An air grate cover consisting of polycarbonate face plate for durability, longevity, and ease of machining with rubber wall seal attached and square drainpipe also.
  2. 2 An air grate cover as claimed in Claim 1 where face plate is machined to incorporate four"rawl plugs"to allow face plate to be pulled onto wall & rubber seal to form watertight seal.
  3. 3 An air grate cover as claimed in Claim 1 where face plate is machined to allow plastic standard downpipe to pass through and to be sealed/bonded to face plate 4 An air grate cover as claimed in Claim 1 where downpipe/drainpipe can be removed or replaced with longer/shorter section.
    S An air grate cover as claimed in Claim 1 which can be removed totally as supply demands using"rawl plugs 6 An air grate cover substantially as herein described ans illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
