Abstract
A construction toy comprises blocks representing bricks which have holes extending through and mats representing mortar that also have holes. Plastic dowels fit through the holes to join the bricks and mats together. The bricks and mats may be made of lightweight washable foam material.

DESCRIPTION A Development Constructional Toy for Children This invention relates to a child's'Bricks and Mortar'building set. The main elements are joined together using plastic dowels which fit snuggly into holes within the foam bricks and the foam mortar mats The bricks are made to the approximate size of a standard clay house brick and possess similar perforations (which accommodate the dowels).
The mats of mortar create a realistic joint effect both in size and colour ; the bricks can be used with or without these mats, depending on the age and/or capabilities of the child.
The materials are colourful, lightweight, safe, and washable, and are designed for children aged over two years.
Features (see accompanying drawings) Page 1. 1 FIGURE 1. Shows a view of the foam mortar mat which is grey in colour.
FIGURE 2. Shows the foam brick which is red or orange in colour.
FIGURE 3. Shows a plan of 1 and 2 FIGURE 4. Shows the plastic dowel peg which is yellow in colour.
Page 1.2 FIGURE 5. Shows a view of half a mortar mat which is grey in colour.
FIGURE 6. Shows a view of a half brick Page 1.3 FIGURE 7. Shows an exploded view of a wall under construction. The dowel (a) slides into the holes (c), (d) and (e), to hold the brick and the mortar mat together.
This is repeated throughout the building of the wall, lining up the mortar mat holes with those in the bricks, and lor placing the units flush with each other.
The dowels can go in any combination of holes, and are long enough to travel through two bricks and sit flush with the surface.
(b) shows a dowel pushed into just one brick.
Claims (4)
