Abstract

A mains electric light is switched (on-off) by a remote controlled switch contained in a unit that plugs directly into the mains. A small hand-held transmitter operates the switch from a distance of up to one hundred metres. The lead from the switch unit to the light can be unplugged from the unit to allow it to be passed through or over obstacles. The light can be placed indoors or outdoors.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
Autolight.
On many occasions lights are required in more remote parts of a building or property eg, outbuildings, lofts etc. lf a mains supply exists, a conventional light may require a switching cable to be run. A light operating through a sensor (security light) may fulfil certain requirements, such as lighting an approach if fitted externally.
Generally however a switch system is still required and the light itself is subject to being operated by climatic conditions, switching off at an inconvenient time and is sometimes slow to respond to an approach.
The invention consists of a small hand held transmitter (Fig 1), the unit (Fig 2) into which is plugged an electrical lead on the other end of which is a mains powered lamp. A small aerial is attached. The unit consists of a two channel receiver. a step-down transformer and two relays, both of which are controlled by a low voltage but which allow mains voltage to be switched.
The drawing shows the main features. These are; Fig 1 which shows the transmitter.
Fig 2 which shows the unit and lamp.
A signal from the transmitter, sent by pressing ON, activates the receiver that allows a current to momentarily pass through Relay 1. This current is provided from the small step-down transformer. This closes the relay. The closing of this relay switches on the power to the lamp and it is kept closed by a current passing through Relay 1, Relay 2 and back to Relay 1. Again this is low voltage from the step-down transformer. The light will remain on until the OFF button on the transmitter is pressed. This allows a pulse of current to pass through Relay 2, closing it and switching off the current to Relay 1. This in turn opens, switching off the power to the lamp.

Claims (3)

Claims. Autolight.
1. A mains electric light system that incorporates its own remotely controlled on-off switch contained in a small unit plugged directly into a mains supply.
2. A light as described in 1, that can be switched on or off from a distance of up to one hundred metres without the need for a separate switch system.
3. A light as described in 1, that may be easily moved and operated anywhere that has a mains electrical supply.
