Abstract

A tile / paving profiler for cutting a tile to fit in a space has a body 1 which holds two telescopic rods 3, bearing a rule 6 or 6a by catches 4 or 4a, and has a grout space regulator 2 adjustable relative to body 1 by screw knob 5 to set a desired grout space. The profiler is laid on the tile adjacent the space to be filled with grout space regulator 2 against the edge of the tile, and fence 6 is extended to the other side of the space. The profiler is then laid on the tile to be cut, and cutting takes place along rule 6 or 6a, so that the cut tile exactly fits the space leaving the correct spacing for grout.

Description

TILE/PAVING PROFILER The invention relates to a tile paving profiler, which can precisely gauge a space where a tile or paving has to be cut to fit, allowing for the desired grout space.

To cut a tile or paving to fit in a given space, it is normally necessary to measure the space at both ends and subtract the grout space required. It would then be necessary to measure both ends of the tile that is to be cut, then mark and cut the tile or paving. Another method is to hold the tile or paving that is to be cut over the space, estimate the grout space required then mark the tile or paving at both ends. Then it would be necessary to scribe a line between the marks, then cut the tile or paving. Both methods have some degree of errors and therefore waste both tiles/paving and time.

An object of this invention is to speed up the process of marking tiles or paving that are to be cut and subtracting the grout space required, thus reducing errors and making the whole process easier Accordingly by this invention incorporates a body, an adjustable grout space regulator, two telescopic rods with catches at the tips that holds a rule fence but allowing this fence to slide to the profile required.

Preferable the tile/paving profiler is made of metal materials, but it may instead be made from plastic materials or a combination of both metal and plastic materials A preferred embodiment of this invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows the top elevation of the profiler complete; FIGURE 2 shows the side elevation of the profiler; FIGURE 3 shows the front elevation of the profiler, FIGURES 4/5/6/7 show elevations of the body separated; FIGURE 8 shows the telescopic rods;

FIGURES 9/10 show elevations of the shape of a magnetic catch and a sliding catch ; FIGURES 11/12/13 show elevations of a rule fence and also a rule fence with a slot for a catch to slide ; FIGURES 14/15/16 show elevations of the grout space regulator ; FIGURES 17/18/19 demonstrates the profiler As shown in Figures 1,2 and 3, the profiler comprises a body 1 which holds the two parallel telescopic rods 3 with a catch 4 or 4a, a rule fence 6 or 6a, a screw tight handle 5, a grout space regulator 2 and reference points 10.

Figures 4,5, 6 and 7 show the body with the holes 8 to except the telescopic rods 3 and a slot 7 to except the screw tight handle 5, which holds the grout space regulator 2 in place when set.

Figures 8,9 and 10 show the telescopic rods 3 and the shape of a magnetic catch 4, which holds a rule fence 6 in place but allows it to slide, 4a shows an alternative sliding catch which holds the rule fence 6a in place, but yet allowing it to slide.

Figures 14,15 and 16 show the grout space regulator 2 with a fixed machine screw 9, which excepts the screw tight handle 5 Figures 17,18 and 19 demonstrates a tile/paving profiler in the following : 1. By setting the adjustable grout space regulator 2 to the grout space required, placing the profiler against the tile already in place and adjacent to the profile required, with the reference points 10 top or bottom as demonstrated in Figure 17.

2. Sliding the rule mark fence 6 or 6a to the edge of the profile required as demonstrated in Figure 18.

3. Placing the profiler on the tile that is to be cut, with the preferred reference points 10 in place, then scribing along the rule fence 6 or 6a to complete the procedure.

Claims

CLAIMS 1 A tile/paving profiler including a body that holds two telescopic rods parallel, with a catch at the tip to hold a rule fence in place but allowing a rule fence to adjust to a given profile.
2 A tile/paving profiler as claimed in claim 1, where by a screw down handle tightens up the grout space regulator when adjusted to the grout space required.
3. A tile/paving profiler as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, which is made from metal material, plastic material or a combination of these materials.

4 A tile/paving profiler substantially as here in described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
