Abstract

Dampers for controlling superheaters; straighttube superheaters.-In water-tube boilers of the semi-vertical tube type, the superheater is formed of one or more groups of tubes which would ordinarily constitute generating tubes, separating chests being formed in the steam and water drums, and valves fitted to the steam pipes, whereby the superheater may be cut in or out from the system. Suitable baffles are fitted for screening the tubes when the superheater is inoperative. Saturated steam from the drum passes to a valve A which is connected to the supply valves A', A<2> of the right and left hand superheaters and also to the valve C on the main steam pipe D. Superheated steam passes trough the valves B<1>, B<2> to the pipe D. When either or both valves A', A<2> are shut, the respective super. heaters are inoperative, and the damper V, of length corresponding to the transverse division plates L at the ends of the superheater unit, is also shut. A partial closure of the damper provides for control of the amount of superheat. The superheater has a drain cock v.
