Abstract
Various Electro-magnetic combined Starter, Alternator and Damping units (10) (ESADS) are disclosed in which a rotor element (14) of the unit is driven from an associated engine via a torsional vibration damper (15) located radially within the rotor element (14) may be supported at two axially spaced locations (21, 17a) and the rotor may drive an associated transmission via a clutch (34) which is also located radially within the rotor. A torsional vibration damper is also disclosed which includes two groups of circumferentially acting springs (23A, 23B) which initially operate in series and at higher rotation angles operate in parallel.
