Abstract

A stationery folder such as a ring folder is provided with one or more pockets or envelopes (20, 30) arranged to receive floppy discs (40) or compact discs for computer use. The pockets or envelopes (20, 30) may be integral with or attached to the inside surface of a cover panel (10) of the folder and may be transparent.

Description

2364020 Stationery folders with disc holders The present invention relates
to stationery folders Various forms of stationery folder are known which serve to retain papers and documents It has become common for many documents or files to be held on floppy discs, or for floppy discs or CD Rom discs to be associated with documents or papers held in a stationery folder It is not an easy matter to keep floppy discs or compact discs in or attached to the stationery folders to which they relate.
I have now devised a stationery folder which overcomes the above difficulties and enables floppy discs and/or compact discs to be retained in close association to the documents or papers to which they relate.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a stationery folder having, attached to or incorporated therein, at least one pocket or envelope to receive a floppy disc or compact disc.
Preferably the pocket or envelope is provided on the inside surface of the cover of the folder For example, the pocket or envelope tnay be provided on the inside surface of the front cover panel of a ring folder Preferably two pockets or envelopes are provided, one above the other W here there are two or more pockets, they may all be for receiving floppy discs, or all for receiving compact discs, or at least one for a floppy disc and at least one for a compact disc.
Preferably the or each pocket or envelope is provided with a closure, for example a closure flag, for closing an opening into which the floppy disc or compact disc is inserted.
Preferably the opening is formed along the upper edge of the pocket or envelope.
The pocket or envelope, or at least the front panel thereof, is formed of a transparent sheet material, so that the floppy disc or compact disc is visible through the front of the pocket.
The pocket or envelope may be built into the folder during manufacture of the folder, i e the pocket or envelope is integral with the folder Alternatively, the pocket or envelope may be formed as a separate unit which is fixed to the folder by the user, for example using adhesive.
Embodiments of the present invention will now be described by way of examples only and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is an isometric view of a ring folder shown fully open and provided, in accordance with the present invention, with a pair of pockets or envelopes for receiving floppy discs; FIGURE 2 is a plan view of the ring folder shown in Figure 1; FIGURE 3 is a similar view of the ring folder, shown with floppy discs received in its two pockets; and FIGURE 4 is an isometric view of a pocket or envelope for receiving a floppy disc, the pocket being arranged for attachment to the inside cover of a ring folder or other stationery folder.
Referring to Figures 1 to 3 of the accompanying drawings, there is shown a ring folder which, in accordance with the conventional construction, comprises front and rear cover panels 10, 12 hinged to opposite edges of an elongate spine panel 14 to the inside surface of which a unit 16 is mounted, the unit 16 having a pair of rings 18 which can be opened and closed to receive punched sheets of paper.
On the inside surface of the front cover panel 10, a pair of square pockets or envelopes 20, 30 are provided, positioned one above the other Each of these pockets or envelopes has an open top edge, for receiving a floppy disc, and is provided with a closure flap 22,32 having a fastener 24, 34 for retaining the closure flap in a folded-down position on the front of the pocket or envelope.
The pockets or envelopes 20, 30 may be formed of transparent sheet material, so that the floppy discs e g 40 are visible through the material of the front of the pocket, a shown in Figure 3.
The pockets or envelopes may be built into the folder during manufacture thereof Alternatively, the pockets or envelopes may be formed as separate units which can be fixed in place in the folder by the user Thus, Figure 4 shows a pocket or envelope 50 in the form of a separate unit, having a closure flap 52 with a fastener 54, to receive a floppy disc The pocket or envelope may be fixed in place using adhesive.
