Abstract

The device comprises a strap (1) that is passed over and under the bed (5). The strap is also passed over or through two corner brackets. The corner brackets are attached to the Mattress Elevator (6). The strap (1) is made tight using a ratchet device or similar. The free end of the strap or a second strap (7) may be used to secure the mattress using a second ratchet device.

DESCRIPTION

For the comfort and benefit of persons in bed it is common practice to raise either the head end or the foot end of a bed mattress. This raising is often effected using an attachment to a standard bed called a Mattress Elevator. The 5 Mattress Elevator is normally fitted on the bed base and under the mattress. It is common to use a number of straps in order to restrain the Mattress Elevator from moving on the bed base. In particular the person using the bed exerts forces towards the end of the bed causing the Mattress Elevator to gradually move towards the end of the bed. It is common practice to use straps from the 10 top to bottom of the bed to prevent the longitudinal movement.

According to the present invention there is provided a device that attaches the Mattress Elevator to the bed using only one strap that may be pulled tight using a ratchet or other tightening devices.

In order that the invention may be easily understood reference will now be made 15 to the attached drawings.

The device comprises a strap (1) that is passed over and under the bed (5). The strap is also passed over or through two comer brackets (2) (3). The comer brackets are attached to the Mattress Elevator (6). The strap (1) is made tight using a ratchet device or similar (4). The free end of the strap or a second strap 20 (7) may be used to secure the mattress (9) using a second ratchet device (8).

Claims (11)

1. What we claim is 1. A device for attaching a Mattress Elevator or similar device to domestic bed, hospital bed or other bed and comprising a strap (1) that is passed under and 5 over the bed (5), said strap also passing over or through two corner devices (2) and (3), said corner devices being attached to the Mattress Elevator (6), said Mattress Elevator being attached to the bed (5) by tightening said strap (1) using a tightening and locking device (4), a second strap or the free end of the first strap (7) may or be utilised to secure the mattress (9) to the Mattress Elevator 10 (6) using a tightening locking device (8).
2. 2. A claim as in claim 1 where the second strap (7) is utilised.
3. 3. A claim as in claim 1 where the second strap (7) is not utilised.
4. 4. A claim as in claims 1-3 where the corner devices (2) (3) are made of metal and may or may not be lined with a non slip material (10) to resist movement.

5. 5. A claim as in claims 1-3 where the corner devices (2) (3) are made of plastic, the surfaces contacting the bed may be smooth or may be formed to resist movement or may have a non slip surface attached.
6. 6. A claim as in claims 1-5 where the strap (1) is substantially circular in the form of a rope.
7. 7. A device as in claims 1-6 wherein the tightening and locking device is a rachet tightening device.

9. 9. A claim as in claims 1-8 where the tightening/locking device (4) is used 25 only for tightening the strap (1)
10. 10. A claim as in claims 1-8 where the tightening/locking device (4) is used for tightening the strap and locking the strap in position.
11. 11. A claim as in claims 1-10 where the tightening/locking device (4) is of any manual or automatic type.

    4. A device as in claims I or 2 wherein the L shaped brackets are made of plastic, the surfaces contacting the bed may be smooth or may be formed to resist movement or may have 2-D a non-slip surface attached.

    6. A device as in claims 1-4 where the strap is substantially flat in form.
