Abstract
An adjustable frame for constructing paving comprises inverted T section runners and cross members. The T section runners comprises slots into which the cross members are inserted at spacings corresponding to standard slab sizes. In use the runners and cross members are arranged into a grid corresponding to the area to be paved (fig.8). Slabs are placed within the grid with two opposed edges of their lower sides abutting the inverted T section, the vertical of the T and the cross members providing the spacing between the slabs.
Description
2363134 This invention relates to a two piece multi adjustable framing aid
for the location of paving slabs and or paving blocks.
When paving slabs are located on a surface that will be used for pedestrian traffic or static equipment such as patio furniture / plant containers, the slabs have a tendency to eventually become loose or uneven also weed growth is possible through the jointing edges of the paving.
According to the present dimensions of paving slabs and or paving blocks, this invention is of a two piece material, which comprises one base strip with intermittent cut outs, and one attaching strip, which slots into the base strip, when multiplied forms a grid like frame, when arranged in an area to be paved it will aid in the location of paving slabs an or paving blocks, and with it's unique design it will deter movement and weed growth, being constructed from a hard wearing plastic, surface's that require a gradient will also benefit due to it's flexibility. The base consist of a flat section measuring 50mm wide by 10 min thick that will be in contact with the area to be covered, this section has an upright located along it entire length standing 30mm high and with a width of 10mm, incorporated into the 1;4 upright" section will be slots cut 20mm wide tapering into l0mm wide, 20mm from the base surface edge, these slots will be located every 100mm along the base strip.
The jointing strip measures I Omm wide and 25mm high, the top edge will be rounded off.
Joining the two together will be achieved with hand pressure allowing an equal grid to be made using the slots as guides.
A specific embodiment of the adjustable frame will now be described by way of the accompanying drawings in which: - Figure I ( sheet 1/ 4) shows a view of the base strip with intermittent cut out slot.
Figure 2 ( sheet 1/ 4) shows a view of the base strip.
Figure 3 ( sheet 2 / 4) shows a cross section of the jointing strip.
Figure 4 ( sheet 2 / 4) shows a side view of the jointing strip.
Figure 5 ( sheet 2 / 4) shows a ground level view of paving slabs ( greyed) sitting on the base strip.
Figure 6 ( sheet 3 / 4) shows a jointed section of the paving grid, indicating how to connect them together.
Figure 6 ( sheet 4 14) shows a paving slab ( greyed) held in place using the base strip and jointing strip.
Figure 7 (sheet 4 / 4) shows a plan view of a grid laid out with paving slabs (greyed) set in place.
In order for paving slabs and or paving blocks to be fitted using the two piece ftmning aid the surfitce for the "base" strip will need to be flat.
The paving slabs and or paving blocks will rest upon the "base" strip which will be the only part in contact with the surface area to be covered.
Claims (6)
1 A two piece frame making aid designed for the location of any existing sized paving slabs and or paving block, the frame being manufactured from moulded plastic for ease of application and flexibility.
2 A two piece frame making aid as claimed in claim 1 can be used because of its de sign more than once where relocation of paving would be a benefit or desire.
3 A two piece frame making aid as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 does not require tools or implements for its application.
4 A two piece frame making aid as claimed in any preceding claim will allow the uniform fitting of paving slabs and or paving blocks either permanently or temporarily.
5 A two piece frame making aid as claimed in claim 4 will because of its unique design prevent the growth of weeds / foliage through the edges of the fitted slabs.
6. A two piece frame making aid as claimed in any preceding claim will be produced martufactred in 3 metre length.
