Abstract
A hanger 11 for fitting over a concrete fence post 12 to support eg a manger or hanging basket comprises a cap 13 which fits freely over the post to form a stable support and a hanger element 14 for the basket or the like.
Description
2362807 Bracke This invention relates to brackets for hanging flower
baskets, mangers and other wall or fence adornments.
Brackets are usually secured to walls or fences by screws, which go directly into wood or into plugs in brickwork. Fences are often of relatively thin wood, as in larch lap fencing, and heavy plant copntainers are best secured to the more robust fence posts. Increasingly, nowadays, fence posts are of concrete. It is not always straightforward to drill into a concrete post which may be some distance from an electric power point, and cordless drills may not be up to the job.
The invention provides an easier way of mounting hanging basket brackets and brackets for mangers and the like to fences with concrete posts.
The invention comprises a hanger for a concrete fence post adapted to sit atop the fence post and hold a utility or decorative feature for the fence.
The cap may be skeletal.
The hanger may be an integral part of a hanging flower basket bracket, or of a manger or planter, or it may have a support on which a bracket, a manger or other item can be supported against the fence.
Tyhe hanger may be an easy fit atop the fence post, so that it may readily be slipped on or off, having such depth, however, below the top of the post as will ensure a stable support for an item carried by the hanger.
The hanger may be made of welded or otherwise fashioned metal strip, eg wrought iron strip, or it may be moulded in a plastics material.
Embodiments of hangers according to the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a first embodiment, shown atop a concrete fence post; Figure 2 is a side elevation of a second embodiment, also atop a post; and Figure 3 is an elevation of another embodiment.
The drawings illustrate hangers 11 for concrete fence posts 12 comprising a cap 13 aadapted to sit atop the post 12 and hold a utility or decorative feature 14 for the fence 15.
The cap, in all illustrated embodiments, is skeletal, but it could equally be fashioned as an inverted, square section cup.
The hanger 11 illustrated in Figure 1 is an integral part of a hanging flower basket bracket, while that illustrated in Figure 2 is an integral part of a manger or planter.
Figure 3, howwever, illustrated a general purpose hanger 11 with upstanding hooks 16 adapted to receive corresponding eyes of a hanging basket bracket, a manger or planter or any other feature, such as a sculpture.
The hangers may be made in the same way as hanging bask et brackets, or of welded or otherwise fashioned strip metal such as wrought iron, or they may be moulded in plastics materials, if heavy duty is not required.
Concrete fence posts tend to be more or less the same size, no matter who makes them, and so the hanger can be made to fit all or the great majority of posts on the market. It is also found that the post usually projects some 20 - 30 em above the top of the fence - the depth of the cap is therefore best kept at about 20cm so that it clears the top of the fence secured to the post.
The embodiment of Figure 3, or some other arrangement which provides a standard cap with attachments for different features, may be made the basis of a system.
