Abstract

A moulded container for a spreadable material has an internal protrusion for use as a scraper to remove excess material from a spreading tool.

Description

1 CONTAINERS 2359536 This invention relates to improvements in or relating
to containers, and particularly but not exclusively a moulded projection within a container for the efficient removal of excess material from a spreading tool back into the container.
Plastic containers are used extensively for the containment of spreadable materials such as margarine and other foodstuffs. Present containers however utilize the upper rim of the container for the removal and return of excess spreadable material from a knife, spatula or tool for the application thereof, back into the container thus creating a problem, the problem being that when the lid of the container is re- applied the excess material adheres to the underside of the lid subsequently when the lid is again removed and due to the springiness of the lid material the offending spreadable material is ejected thus creating a messy situation, after frequent use spreadable material begins to collect around the exterior of the lid closure after being forced through the seal.
According to the present invention there is provided an open-topped container comprising a base and side walls upstanding therefirom, a projection being provided extending into the container from a one of the side walls, the projection providing an edge or surface towards an upper part of the container onto which excess material on a knife or the like can be wiped.
The projection preferably extends into the container for only a relatively short distance, and desirably less than a third of the way to an opposite side wall.
The projection maybe formed substantially centrally of said one side wall. The projection preferably extends substantially transversely to said one side wall.
A lip may be provided on the container, and a removable lid may be provided engageable with the lip. The top of the projection is preferably spaced below the lip.
The projection is preferably hollow, and may be laterally and downwardly open. The container may be arranged so as to be stackable with other such containers, with the projection on a container locatable within the exterior of a corresponding projection on an above container.
The projection may have a substantially flat upper surface which extends generally parallel to the base of the container. The projection may comprise an inner edge which extends from the upper surface to the base of the container, and which desirably extends substantially perpendicular thereto.
The container is preferably made of plastics material and desirably food grade plastics material. The projection is preferably integrally formed with the rest of the container, and the container may be formed by moulding.
2 A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Figure 1 shows in perspective, the projection within the container.
Figure 2 shows in perspective, the projection viewed from outside the container illustrating it's stacking ability.
Figure3 shows a plan view of one type of container and projection- Shown in figure 1 is an empty container for the use of foodstuffs or such like, showing midway and vertically from the base to just below the lip of the container is a projection, which is utilised for the removal of excess spreadable material from a knife or tool thereof by wiping When the container is full the uppermost edge of this projection protrudes above the surface of the contents ready to be utilised, as the contents deplete more of the vertical edge comes into use.
Figure 2 shows that the projection is hollow on the exterior of the container and is of such shape that it is stackable within containers of the same shape.
The projection is not exclusive to this design of container and may be utilised in many shapes of containers.
