Abstract
The wallpaper cutting device which can be used to cut accurate holes round wall light switches and electrical outlet sockets consists of two parts, a base plate Figure 4 which is fixed on top of the switch or socket using the switch or socket's own retaining screws (1) and a cutting template Figure 5 which locates on two location pins (3). A knife is then run around slots (5) passing through the wallpaper into base plate groove leaving a hole with flaps on all sides to enable the socket switch to pass through the hole with ease.
Description
-I- 2359041 TEMPLATE FOR CUTTING WALLPAPER 1 Cutting wallpaper around wall
light switches and electrical sockets has always been a tricky and awkward task, using more often than not guess work making it very easy for mistakes to be made resulting in an unprofessional finish. A universal cutting template used for accurately cutting holes in wallpaper for wall light switches and electrical sockets would be relatively inexpensive and easy to use.
The present invention consists of two parts: i.) A base part which lowes via the switch or socket retaining screws and is held in place by them. ii.) A top cutting guide which locates on two pins which protrude from the base part. The cutting guide enables the user to run a sharp knife around the slots so cutting the wallpaper sandwiched between the two plates. Grooves in the base plate approximately 2mm deep allow the blade to pass right through the sandwiched wallpaper so as not to tear the wallpaper in the cutting process. Slots are so arranged as to give 8mm. flaps for ease of passing the socket through the hole in the wallpaper.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by using reference to the accompanying sketches:- Figure 1 shows a standard electric light switch., Figure 2 shows a standard electric wall;ocket; Figure 3 shows base plate fixed to a light switch using the switch's fixing screws; - Figure 4 shows base plate; Figure 5 shows cutting template; 0.
1 In order to use the invention, the base plate shown in figure 4 is fixed on top of the light switch or electrical socket via the switch's own retaining screws (1) by loosening them and sliding the base plate over them using keyed slots (2) and then retightening them as shown in figure 3. The pasted wallpaper is then positioned on the wall in the correct position and using a wallpaper brush, brush the wallpaper over the switch and base plate enabling the positioning pins (3) to pierce through the wallpaper. The cutting template shown in figure 5 is then located on the positioning pins and held in place using the thumb indent (4) sandwiching the wafipaper between base plate and cutting template. A sharp knife is run through the slots (5) in cutting template and once all the slots have been cut the cutting guide can be removed- Ile centre square of wallpaper is removed giving access to the light switch retaining screws. The screws are loosened all the way but not removed- The wallpaper is then lifted clear enough to remove base plate and case socket through hole in wallpaper. The wallpaper can then be brushed against the wall and the switch refixed- CLAIMS
1 1 1. A cutting guide consisting of two parts, a base plate and a cutting template as to enable the cutting of wallpaper accurately around wall light switches and electrical outlet sockets using a knife.
A cutting guide as claimed in claim 1, with a base plate having key slotted holes which align with standard light switches and electrical socket retaining screws for the purpose of fixing.
3. A cutting base plate as claimed in claim 1, with grooves in it to allow a knife blade to pass through the wallpaper as to not tear it in the cutting process.
4, A cuffing base plate as claimed in claim 1, with locating pins to pierce wallpaper and for location of the cutting template.
5. A cutting guide as claimed in claim 1, with slots so arranged as to guide knife blade through wallpaper, cutting out hole with flaps on all sides to enable switch or socket to pass through hole with case.
6. A cutting guide as described herein with reference to figure 4 and 5.
