Abstract

An insulating sleeve comprises a sleeve having a truncated top and a removable base for the insertion and removable of a beverage container. The base has a tapered shape or a screw thread for attachment to the sleeve. The beverage in the beverage container can be consumed directly without removing the insulating sleeve. The shape of the insulating sleeve may conform to the shape of the beverage container. The insulating sleeve may have a cup which is tapered or has a screw thread for fitting over the top of the beverage container. The insulating sleeve may have a handle. The insulating sleeve may be manufactured from plastic foam material.

Description

2356450 REUSABLE AQUEOUS SLEEVE This invention relates to a reusable
insulating sleeve for pre-chilled bottled potable water and other drinks.
Much bottled water is sold straight from the chilling units housed in garages, supermarkets and other retail outlets and is usually purchased for immediate consumption. With the very poor insulating characteristics of the plastic boule, the chilled water or drink can once outside the chilling unit can quickly heat up to the ambient air temperature and loose its satisfying cooling taste when drunk. With the bottled water manufactures now concentrating on standard bottle profiles an inexpensive reusable insulating sleeve can be manufactured to keep the bottled water chilled for a considerable period of time after purchase. The sleeve can also be used for other drinks and can be used for keeping drinks hot.
The insulating sleeve comprises a preformed sleeve manufactured to the same shapes as the various standard bottle profiles with a screw or tapered fit bottom section and the top truncated to allow the cap and part of the neck to protrude. The insulating sleeve will be manufactured from a lightweight foarn plastic with exceptionally high insulating characteristics. The insulating sleeve can also be provided with a screw cup top and a suitably positioned handle.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: - Figure I shows a perspective of the basic insulating sleeve with the truncated top allowing liquid to be drunk direct from the bottle without removing the insulating sleeve. It also shows the profile of the insulating sleeve that can mirror that of the bottle thereby ensuring that the insulating sleeve is a snug fit to the bottle and maximizing the insulation against warming up or cooling of the drink.
Figure 2 shows a section through the insulating sleeve with the screw fit and tapered base.
Figure 3 shows the insulating sleeve with the bottle placed inside.
Figure 4 shows a typical example of an added cup to the top and a handle for ease of carrying.
Having purchased the drink, the insulating sleeve base would be removed, the old empty drinks bottle would be discarded and the new drink container entered into the bottom of the sleeve until the neck protruded from the top. When the drinks bottle was felt in contact with the top of the sleeve the base would be replaced and screwed or pushed in tight to secure the bottle. The cup could be used as required.
The profile of the insulating sleeve can be varied to suit any proprietary bottled drink.
I

Claims (5)

  2. 2. A reusable insulating sleeve as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the shape of the sleeve is consistent with the shape of the bottled container to ensure close contact with the bottle.
  3. 3. A reusable insulating sleeve as in claim I and 2 wherein a screw or tapered fit cup can be fitted over the top of the bottle.
  4. 4. A reusable insulating sleeve as in claim 1, 2, and 3 wherein a handle can be fitted for ease of carrying.
  5. 5. A reusable insulating sleeve substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawing.
