Abstract

235,530. Soc. Anon. le Carbone. June 14, 1924, [Convention date]. Electrodes.-An active material for lead accumulators comprises a mixture of 60 per cent of powdered lead or oxide of lead and a porous conductor body in grains of small density which has a large gas absorbing power retained during use of the accumulator and has been rendered impervious to liquids while still permeable to gases. The porous body consists of equal parts of coarse grains of porous charcoal of 0.5 to 1 m.m. and of fine grains passing a screen of 150 to 200 meshes per inch. The active material may be impregnated with sulphuric acid of 10‹ to 15‹ BÚ. and may be used in a container with a central porous partition, a lead electrode being placed in each compartment; or the lead electrodes e, f may be placed each in a porous parchment envelope b<1>, c<1> filled with the active material and standing in a container filled with sulphuric acid of 10‹ to 15‹ Be. Alternatively, the active material impregnated with a solution of 10 per cent sulphuric acid may be compressed into recesses b in electrodes comprising a perforated plate e of coal carbon. Specification 226,769 is referred to.
