Abstract

A stand-alone telephone apparatus for indicating when the handset has been left off-hook comprising a visual indicator and a resistive component connected across the telephone line and a sensing means for sensing a voltage across the resistive component responsive to the handset going off hook to cause the said visual indicator to flash.

Description

1 2354668 My Invention I phoned my Dad on the Isle of Wight, twice a day
at dinnertime, after I Opm. Dad he his on is own, Mother died about 3 years ago. Dad he is 91 years old. Dad did not place the handset in the right place over past year 4 times. ( I was phoning him he was having engaged tone. Phoned him several hours. Next day I had phoned his friend, Tom came to Dads house. Tom has replaced the handset in right place.) I have an idea. Saw the flashing red light, did not the replace handset.
l. I have measured the line voltage, the handset is replaced it is 42 volts approx.
The handset been removed it is 8 volts approx.
2. 1 have designed the circuit for the flashing LED. 3. Connection to the line, one component across the line, possibly short-circuited to the line.
times resistors total 6M ohms did not influence the line.
4. 1 have applied 42 volts into the line terminals to the circuit. Drains the battery = 0. 85mA I have reduced to 8 volts. Flashing Red L.E.D. Drains the battery = 2.4mA 5. Diode DI has to protect to the negative half cycle on the 'Ringing Tone.
6. Diode D2 has to protect the circuit the reversed batteries.

This plastic box is reduced two thirds of the size due to fixed voltage 6 volt regulated Mains Adapter.

Claims (4)

CLAIMS 1. A stand-alone device to visibly determine if a telephone line is open. 2. A device as claimed in Claim I where the visual indication is by means of a lamp or L.E.D or other light emmitting source. 3. A device as claimed in Claim I or Claim 2 where the device derives it's operating power by internal batteries. 4. A device as claimed in Claim 3 where the device derives it's operating power by an external power source. 5. A device as claimed in any proceeding Claim where the visible indication is made by not using a light emmitting source. Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows. CLAIMS:
1. A stand-alone telephone apparatus for indicating when the handset has been left offhook comprising a visual indicator and a resistive component connected across the telephone line and a sensing means for sensing a voltage across the resistive component responsive to the handset going off-hook to cause the said visual indicator to flash.
2. An apparatus as claimed in claim I wherein the visual indicator is an LED.
3. An apparatus as clainied in claim I or claim 2 wherein the apparatus derives it's operating power by internal batteries.
4. An apparatus as claimed in claim I or claim 2 wherein the apparatus derives it's operating power by an external power source.
