Abstract

An implement comprises a split shaft "B" conjoined by a utensil head "A", which can be used as "western" cutlery by gripping the shaft as a single handle, or can be broken to form a pair of chopstick C, D, as illustrated in Figure 1 and Figure 2. The head A may form a fork, optionally also having a cutting edge, or a spoon. The chopsticks are formed by manually separating the two halves of the shaft until the head fractures.

2350778 DUAL PURPOSE DISPOSABLE CUTLERY This invention relates to dual
purpose disposable cutlery implements.
Dispos.Ne chopsticks are usually formed of a single piece of plastic or wood, comprising a split shaft conjoined by a solid head, which is snapped in two to fTom the chopsticks at time of use. Since many customers cannot use chopsticks, and many foods cannot be eaten with chopsticks, restaurants and stalls must also provide "western" disposable utensils such as forks and spoons.
According to the present invention there is provided a single implement comprising a split shaft conjoined by, a head formed as a cutlery utensil. Thus the implement may be used as "western" cutlery with the shaft acting as a handle, or the may be broken apart to forma pair of chopsticks.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fui.e 1 illustrates the implement in its conjoined state for "western" use; and ig Figure 2 illustrates the implement in its chopstick configuration.
Referring to the drawing the implement comprises a fork-shaped head "A", and a split shaft "R", as in Figure 1.
In order to split the implement and form chopsticks, the two halves of the shaft are pulled apart by hand, causing the head to fracture. The resulting chopsticks are shown as "C" and "D" in Figure 2.

Claims (5)

1.: dual purpose disposable cutlery implement comprising a split shaft conjoined by a utensil head.
2. AD implement as claimed in Claim 1 with a pronged or forked head.
3. An implement as claimed in Claim 1 with a spoon or ladle like head.
4. An implement as claimed in Claim 1 with a knife or cutting surfaced head.
5.;, n implement as claimed in Claim 4 with the forked head combined with a cutting surface (for instance a dessert fork).
