Abstract

A baby carriage with a cover comprises a nacelle 11 with a bellows hood 12 with a first protective member 14 covering the hood and a complementary second protective member 15 covering the nacelle in front of the hood to provide a "bubble" cover. The two protective members are releasably connected together and to the hood so that they can be used together or separately to protect one end of the nacelle. The versatile cover provides protection against the rain, wind and cold.

Description

Baby Carriage The present invention relates to baby carriages. In particular, the invention relates to baby carriages with protective covers.
In the prior art there are known carriages which can be equipped with a rain cover covering the bellows type fabric hood. These covers can be provided if necessary with a front sheet falling vertically over the hood entrance and extending horizontally above the carriage cover.
These covers often make access to the interior of the carriage difficult and are the cause of water infiltration especially when moved to allow access to the interior.
In addition in practice the front sheet is not usable alone even when the protection provided at the rear of the hood would be sufficient e. g. merely to gain protection from wind.
In accordance with the present invention there is provided a baby carriage comprising a nacelle with a bellows hood with a first protective member covering the hood and a complementary second protective member covering the nacelle in front of the hood to provide a"bubble"cover with the first and second member connected in a removable manner along one connecting edge near the front edge of the hood.
One advantage of the preferred embodiment is that it provides a baby carriage with an improved protective cover.
Another advantage of the preferred embodiment of the present invention is that it remedies the abovementioned shortcomings of the prior art by making available a carriage and protective cover practical and easy to use as well as easily adaptable to differing protective requirements.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 shows a diagrammatic scrap view of a carriage with protection in accordance with the present invention; and Fig. 2 shows a view of a joint zone for parts of the cover of Fig. 1.
With reference to the Figs. Fig. 1 shows a carriage 10 comprising a nacelle 11 with a bellows hood 12 and a frame 13. Over the hood 12 is arranged a first waterproof covering member 14 of transparent flexible plastic which is generally formed like the hood and extends downwards to cover the corresponding walls of the nacelle.
In front above the nacelle is a second waterproof covering member 15 also of flexible transparent plastic and generally formed specularly to the first member and having hoops 16 to provide a covering bellows for the front zone of the nacelle. The second member also extends along the corresponding side walls of the nacelle.
First and second protective members are joined together along a junction line 17 generally extending near the front edge of the hood. As clarified below the two protective members are connected together and to the hood in such a manner as to allow joint or separate and independent use thereof.
As may be seen in Fig. 2 an advantageous combination of slide fasteners allowing assembly and disassembly of the protective members in a simple, fast manner in combination at will and with perfect sealing against rail water was found. To achieve this the hood is equipped along its front edge with a first part of a slide fastener 18 while the covering member is equipped along the corresponding front junction edge with a second slide fastener part 19 having a cursor 20 and a third parallel part of a slide fastener 21. The junction edge of the front covering member 16 is in turn equipped with a fourth part of a slide fastener 22 equipped with a cursor 23.
In accordance with the preferred configuration the slide fastener part 18 is designed to mate with the slide fastener part 19 by means of the cursor 20 or with the slide fastener part 22 by means of the cursor 23. The slide fastener part 21 is designed to mate with the slide fastener part 22 by means of the cursor 23.
With this configuration the following combinations are possible, to wit, rear protection only with the member 14 arranged on the hood 12 and constrained thereto by means of mutual mating of the slide fastener parts 18, 19; front protection only with member 15 arranged on the nacelle and constrained to the hood by means of mutual mating of the slide fastener parts 18,22; complete front and rear protection with the members 14 and 15 constrained together by mating of the slide fastener parts 21,22 and to the hood by mating of the slide fastener parts 18,19.
With complete protection a kind of protective bubble is provided with the advantage of having more protected internal space. This also gives greater thermal protection in severe climats.
It should be noted that in case of complete protection the mated slide fastener parts 21,22 cover the mated slide fastener parts 18,19. This eliminates a possible doubt in handling of the cursors when it is desired to open complete protection by making erroneous handling of the cursor 20, which would release the cover without opening it, impossible.
The preferred arrangement of the slide fasteners makes the mating even better sealed against water infiltration. It is now clear that the predetermined purposes have been achieved.
Naturally the above description of an embodiment applying the innovative principles of the present invention is given by way of non-limiting example of said principles within the scope of the exclusive right claimed here.
For example the carriage configuration and the exact cover configuration can vary depending on specific requirements. The pair of slide fastener parts 19,21 can also be arranged on the front member 15 and the individual slide fastener part 22 can be arranged on the rear element 14 even if it was found preferable to be able to first install only the rear part and then install the front part without further mating changes.
