Abstract

Wire ropes with varying cross-sections and with short lengths of protecting sheathing; coupling. - Wire ropes D, Fig. 13, employed as rubbing guides between two lift cages in a shaft are formed with an enlargement E at the point where the cages pass. When the rope is made by winding six wires A round a single wire B, the enlargement is produced by replacing the wire B by a rod C, Fig. 1, with' conical ends. The wire B may be wound on the rod C with the other wires. The enlargement may comprise one or a number of tubes E, Fig. 4, or tapered sockets G, I for the ends of the rope D and a connecting member H, Fig. 7. If the rope D is composed of three strands of three wires each, the enlargement may be formed by adding a centre wire C, Fig. 12, to each strand and, if desired, a centre wire to the rope.
