Abstract

A fork attachment for connection to the fifth wheel coupling of a towing vehicle comprises a set of forks, a rubbing plate and a king pin. Preferably the forks are adjustably positioned on a rack which, together with the rubbing plate and king pin, are connected to a strengthening structure made from I-section beams e.g. by bolting (Fig 2). Preferably the towing vehicle is a Tugmaster (RTM) in which the fifth wheel coupling is raisable and lowerable allowing a load to be picked up or lowered when the attachment is so connected.

Description

Tug Forks The drawings show a design which, after connecting to a Tugmaster
vehicle, will act as a fork lift truck.
Tugmastersbre widely used in shipping ports around the world and work in a similar manner to an articulated lorry. They both have a 5th wheel, which connets to the king pin on a trailer. However, the 5th wheel on a raised and lowered.
Drawing no 2 shows the design, which incorporates a rubbing plate and king pin connected to a fork rack and a set of forks.
Drawing no 3 shows the basic principles of what the design actually does.

Claims (5)

Claims.
1. A design of forks which allow a TugmasterLvehicle to act as a forklift truck once
the forks have been fitted to the 5"'wheel of the Tugmatserehicle. These forks fit to the 5th wheel by use of a kingpin to connect to the rubbing plate and 5th wheel in the same manner as an articulated vehicle connects to a trailer.
2. The forks as described in claim one are connected to a construction made up of a fork adjusting rack, rubbing plate, kingpin and bolted to a strengthening structure made from'I'sections of steel, which are welded together.
3. A set of forks as described in claim 1 and 2 can be fitted to allow a Tugmasterlto operate as a forklift truck and can be detached to allow normal use of the
@ugmaste@.
4. As described in claim 3 by raising or lowering the 5th wheel the forks will also
raise and lower. Thus the attachment allows the TugmasterZvehicle to be used as a standard forklift type vehicle and a normal Tugmaster
5. A Fork Attachment substantially as herein described with the respect to the accompanying drawings.
5. A set of forks and connection substantially as herein described, to the Tugmaster
vehicle as shown in the accompanying drawings Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1. A Fork Attachment for connecting to a fifth wheel coupling of a Tugmaster (RTM) Vehicle to enable the vehicle to act as a fork lift truck, the attachment comprising a set of forks, a rubbing plate and a king pin.
2. The Fork Attachment of Claim 1 in which the fork set adjustably positionable on a fork rack part of the attachment.
3. The Fork Attachment of Claim 2 in which the rack, rubbing place and king pin are bolted to a strengthening structure made from I section steel beams.
4. A method of using a Tugmaster (RTM) vehicle as a fork lift truck comprising uncoupling the vehicles trailer from its fifth wheel coupling, connecting the attachment of any of Claims 1-3 to the vehicles fifth wheel coupling and raising or lowering its fifth wheel to allow loads to be picked up or lowered by the attachment forks.
