Abstract

A block a is cooled by means of refrigerant so that water vapour in the atmosphere freezes on it. Warming of the block melts the ice formed on it and the clean water is collected d. The block may be warmed by moving it into a heated compartment b.

Description

PROBLEM AS ENTERED ON THE MARCH 22 IN THE TOSHIBA YEAR OF 1991--AWARDS To water the deserts, especially the hot Deserts ; watering isolated forms, hill forms etc; providing drinking water in cars on desert treks eg. Sahara expeditions; providing running water in caravans etc.
METHOD. To Extract water from the air by means of refrigeration and defrosting.
I noted that in my current upright deep-freezer the alloy-pipes at the top gathered a large amount if ice which produced more than a bowl-ful of water when defrosted-yet no water had been used.
It seemed to me that a modification of the above process could be used to produce water.
The refrigerated block can be moved back & forwards as a shuttle or on a series thus: Of course there need never be a gap as all sections can contain blocks which are being frozen & defrosted at the same time alternately. A simpler method may be to arrange several units thus; AN EXTRA ADDITION TO THE PATENT PAPERS 1 AND 2 NB. In strict confidence and with a guarantee of confidentiality I have also suggested to firms that a simple unit as suggested could be used to top up car radiators automatically. So far no firm has taken up this idea.

Claims (6)

  1. CLAIMS 1. This method is to extract water from the air by a means of refriggration and defrosting
  2. 2. Previously the development of refriggration has been to produce no water and to avoid defrosting in a domestic situation whilst this claim does the opposite
  3. 3. As much water as possible is to be produced so that water could be supplied in a dry parched area e. g A desert or in transport eg an aeroplane or a train
  4. 4. Water could easily be produced in cold area e. g in an aeroplane flying at high altitudes where previously water has been in short supply for toilets and showers on long haul flights
  5. 5. Also the idea could be used eventually to eradicate the use of filling of car radiators as water would be constantly supplie
  6. 6. The process is based on the freeze/thaw action see abstract
