Abstract

The subject clearly offers reduced maintenance liability. It will operate silently. It will reduce the overall weight and size of the engine. It may relieve the use of a fanbelt altogether.

Description

Description 1. Title : An engine starter motor.
2. Background : Engine starter motors are commonly electric motors connected mechanically by inertially operated and released gear to the engine.
3. Problem : Such electric motors their bearings commutators and gear suffer wear and corrosion.
4. Solution : A device which suffers no such wear or corrosion by having no such bearings, nor commutator, nor gear.
5. Method : The employment of an electric'linear motor'.
6. Essential Features : An electric linear motor is deployed about a rotating or moving part of the engine.
7. Consequent Features : By reciprocity the motor may act as an electric generator.
8. Drawings : There are no drawings included.
9. Examples : By using the engine'crown wheel'or similar, but not requiring gear teeth, of appropriate design as the moving component of an electric linear motor either : by including permanent magnets in that wheel and applying d. c. magnetic fields to it or : by applying variable or a. c. magnetic fields to it fsuch pulsed or multiphase electric supplies being easily derived by chopping or d. c./a. c. inversion from a conventional car battery for example] allowing : by reciprocal controlled use the motor to act as a generator.
