Abstract

A conduit adaptor for terminating a length of conduit, the adaptor comprising two parts, the first part comprising a bush having a head at one end and a threaded outer surface, the second part comprising a sleeve to pass over the end of the conduit, a threaded inner bore and holding means to retain the head of the bush, the first part being attachable to the second part in two configurations: a first configuration in which the threaded outer surface of the bush is screwed into the threaded inner bore to provide a female adaptor; and a second configuration in which the head of the bush is retained in the holding means to provide a male adaptor.

Description

CONDUIT ADAPTOR DESCRIPTION A conduit adaptor is a component that pushes over the end of a length of PVC conduit. The device then allows the conduit to be terminated into either a prethreaded hole (male) or a plain bore-hole where a female adaptor would be used.
This invention combines both male and female adaptors into one component. This is achieved according to the descriptions below.
Firstly, the conduit adaptor is fed over the end of the conduit. The entrance of the adaptor (10) is slightly funnelled to allow the easy insertion of PVC conduit. The conduit is prevented from being pushed in too far by the end-stop (6). Above this is an internally-threaded bore (7). This is used in conjunction with the threaded bush (11). To become a female adaptor, the bush is inserted with the threaded entry facing down. The bush is then screwed into the internal threads (7). This creates a female bush.
In order to turn the same two components into a male adaptor, the top of the adaptor is funnelled out enough to accept the head of the bush (2). The head of the bush is forced upside-down into a recess (8) which is a snug fit. To prevent the head of the bush from becoming detached, recesses (4) are put around the edges. When the head of the bush is forced into the recess (8), this forces the fastening device (5 & 9) to become flush whilst being inserted, but when fully inserted into the recess springs ove : he recesses (4), thus holding the bush in place.

Claims (9)

  1. CLAIMS: 1.
  2. 2. A conduit adaptor according to Claim 1, wherein the sleeve has an entrance which is funnelled to allow easy insertion of the conduit.
  3. 3. A conduit adaptor according to Claim 1 or 2, wherein the sleeve has an end stop to prevent the conduit from being inserted too far within the sleeve.
  4. 4. A conduit adaptor according to any preceding claim, wherein the sleeve is at one end of the second part and the threaded inner bore and the holding means are at the opposite end of the second part.
  5. 5. A conduit adaptor according to any preceding claim, wherein the holding means comprises a recess at one end of the second part provided with fasteners to retain the head of the bush within the recess when the bush is inserted into the recess in the second configuration.
  6. 6. A conduit adaptor according to Claim 5, wherein the fasteners are inserted into indents formed in the head of the bush when the bush is inserted into the recess in the second configuration.
  7. 7. A conduit adaptor according to Claim 5 or 6, wherein the inner surface of the recess is of the same section as the outer surface of the head of the bush.
  8. 8. A conduit adaptor substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
  9. 9. Any novel feature or combination of features disclosed herein.
