Abstract
A package comprises: a rectangular article 14, particularly a mouse mat, in a transparent bag 16; and an insert 2 for labelling and locating the article in said bag. The insert partially overlaps the article, and is preferably formed by folding sheet material into a w-shaped cross section, so that the article can be engaged in the central v-shaped channel 10. The package can also include a relatively stiff backing sheet which can also be located by the insert. The mouth of the bag preferably has a flap 17 with a layer of double sided adhesive tape 18 for sealing the bag. The bag and label may have holes 20 which align when the package is assembled, so that the package may be hung for display purposes.
Description
PACKAGED RECTANGULAR ARTICLE
This invention relates to packaged rectangular articles.
The background of the invention will be described with reference to mouse mats. The invention is applicable to other rectangular articles and other applications may occur readily to the reader.
Mouse mats are often displayed for sale in a transparent bag. The bag is closed at one end by a label which is folded over end of the bag and stapled thereto.
There is often a hole through the label by which the bag is hung on a display stand. The arrangement is best when fresh, but deteriorates with time. The label becomes tatty and the corners curl up.
Against this background, there is provided a rectangular article in combination with a package comprising a transparent bag and a label inside the envelope, partly overlapping the article and including locating means engaging the article, to locate the article relative to the label. The label is protected by the bag which prevents its corners from curling.
Preferably, the label is formed from sheet by folding to provide a channel in which an end of the article locates. The sheet may be card.
The label is preferably folded to a W-shaped cross section. The channel is then provided by the inverted V shape at the centre of the W.
Some articles, e. g. some mouse mats, are too flexible to stay located in the channel. In that case, the package may include a relatively stiff backing sheet also located by the locating means.
One embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a pictorial view of a mouse mat and label being inserted in a bag to form a combination embodying the invention;
Figure 2 is a pictorial view of the label from
Figure l ;
Figure 3a is a cross sectional detail of the label and end of the mouse mat;
Figure 3b is cross sectional detail of an alternative arrangement; and
Figure 4 is a plan view of the assembled combination of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, a label 2 is printed on a sheet material, e. g. card. The blank is rectangular and is perforated along lines 4,6 and 8 along which it is subsequently folded to a W-shaped cross section to form a channel 10 as may be seen from Figures 2 and 3. Figure 3a shows the label folded on three lines and Figure 3b shows the label folded on four lines.
An end 12 of a mouse mat 14 is placed in the channel 10 and the mat and label are inserted in a transparent plastics bag 16. The plastics material may be polypropylene. Using the mouse mat, the label is propelled to the sealed top of the bag. The bag has a flap 17 on which is stuck a layer of double sided adhesive tape 18 with a backing layer. Once the mat and label are inserted into the bag, the backing layer is removed from the tape 18 and the flap is folded over to close the bag.
The bag and label are formed with aligned holes 20 by which the package can be hung from a display stand.
If the mouse mat is too limp to remain in the channel 10, a card backing sheet (not shown) of approximately the same size as the mat, is inserted with the mat in the channel 10.
Claims (5)
1. A rectangular article in combination with a package comprising a transparent bag and a label inside the envelope, partly overlapping the article and including locating means engaging the article, to locate the article relative to the label.
2. A combination as claimed in claim 1, wherein the label is formed from sheet by folding to provide a channel in which an end of the article locates.
3. A combination as claimed in claim 2, wherein the label is folded to a W-shaped cross section.
4. A combination as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the article is a mouse mat.
5. A combination as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the article is relatively flexible and including a relatively stiff backing sheet also located by the locating means.
