Abstract

A door mat comprises a pad B of sheets of moisture-absorbent paper or card, the top layer of which may be peeled away and disposed of when soiled. The sheets may be glued together at their edges, may have a finger hole in one corner for ease of peeling, may be contained in a tray A, and may lie in a floor recess.

Description

DOOR PAD (SHOE BLOTTER) This invention relates to a pad of absorbant paper, designed to rapidly remove surplus water from footwear Traditional door mats are usually of the bristle type, which while effective in removing mud and grit, absorb a negligable amount of moisture and there can be a problem with footmarks over adjoining carpets and flooring.
There are available some mats of an alternative substance which claim to absorb moisture, but these rapidly become soiled.
According to the present invention, there is provided a pad of strong yet absorbent paper or card, which rapidly absorbs moisture from footwear and animal paws. The novelty of the invention is that once the top layer of paper becomes saturated or soiled this can simply be removed leaving a fresh surface below.
The specificate embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of examples with reference to the accompanying sketches.
FIG l. Shows the side elevation of a tray"A"made of steel, wood, plastics or similar material of depth from 5mm to, say, 30mm. This would contain a pack of absorbant paper or card"B", each sheet being 0.2-0.3mm thickness, thus giving packs of approximatly 20-100 sheets.
FIG 2 Shows a plan of the same tray, illustrating a finger hole"C" in the corner of the pack"B", to facilitate easy removal of each sheet as it becomes soiled.
FIG 3 Shows an alternative by which the pad is held together by glueing the edgg"D", obviating the need for the tray shown in figs 1 and 2.
FIG 4 Illustrates a recessed floor area"E", allowing the pad to shown in fig3 to drop in.
