Abstract

A three-sided baby cot which can be attached to the parent's bed thus creating a safe and secure extension to that bed for the baby. The cot has adjustable legs, one pair of which can pivot and lock to be secured under the mattress of the parent's bed. Side clamps on the cot further secure it to the parent's bed. The cot can be detached from the bed and used as a freestanding cot.

Description

2340386 BABY COT EXTENSION This Invention relates to a three-sided Baby
Cot Extension.
Baby cots or cribs are usually free-standing beds for babies. New parents face the prospect of disrupted nights and the decision of where and in what their baby should sleep.
Co-sleeping, with a child in the same bed as the parents, has been practised by all cultures for 1000's of years and has proven to have beneficial bonding attributes.
However there is also the parent's fear of squashing the child and suffering an uncomfortable night due to lack of space and possibly disturbing the child.
Resettling a child in its own cot also has negatives as the child seems to know instinctively when they are being lifted back into their own beds and quite often awaken to object.
Encouraging a child to sleep through the night is every parent's objective, and a certain level of training is necessary - this invention aims to help contribute to that process.
According to the present invention there is provided a three sided baby cot that attaches to the side of the parent's bed, butting up to the mattress on the same level to create an extension to the parent's bed, providing a safe but close area for the child in a separate but attached bed.
This is created by means of three padded sides and mattress and adjustable legs, that secure under the parent's mattress and reposition to free stand, and side clamps that lock onto the side support of the parents bed.
The cot will be built to BSS standard.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 Shows in perspective the baby cot attached to the parent's bed.
Fig. 2 Illustrates the cot detached from the parent's bed with adjustable legs supporting.
Fig. 3 Side elevation of the cot clamps in position on the parent's bed, and adjustable legs supporting the cot.
Fig. 4 Front elevation of cot.
Referring to the drawing, the cot compromises of three soft padded sides, and a mattress base.
In order to attach the cot to the parent's bed,the adjustable legs slide under the parents mattress and two clamps adjust and clamp onto the side support of the parents bed.
When dismounted the cot legs fold down to create a child's seat for later use.
