Description

2339837 Striking plate
The invention relates to a striking plate in accordance with the characterising clause of Patent Claim 1.
Striking plates of this kind are known and consist, for example, of a lengthwise expanded basic body formed from a flat U-profile, on the underside of which a latch casing is held, in the area of a latch aperture, and a bolt casing is held, in the area of a bolt aperture. The fall casing or bolt casing has the task of covering the bolt recess or fall recess in the window frame or rigid f rame of the door, which may be fissured, and thus visually not appropriate. On the front of the baseplate, then, for example, a cover plate is fastened. The latter has at least one aperture which, with a congruent aperture in the baseplate, forms the latch aperture or the bolt aperture. Two eccentrics, for example, are provided in indentations of the cover plate for an adjustment, these eccentrics then being riveted to this cover plate, the baseplate and the bolt casing or fall casing. The cover plate thus covers only part of the baseplate, i.e. in the areas of the latch aperture or the bolt aperture.
Among other things, these known striking plates have the disadvantage that, due to the eccentrics used, the indentations needed for the eccentrics, and also the riveting process required for manufacture, they are relatively expensive.
The objective of the invention is to put forward a striking plate which avoids these disadvantages and which can be manufactured at a reasonable price.
To solve this problem, a striking plate is formed in accordance with Patent Claim 1.
2 The striking plate according to invention takes the form of an inexpensive system, which is very flexible and can be tailored to requirements in application, since the baseplate, the cover plate and the associated casings are each available as separate components, which are connected to one another, in a particularly simple manner, when the striking plate is mounted. This makes it possible to provide for various cover plates while using the same baseplate and to use latch casings and / or bolt casings only where casings of this kind are actually also needed and / or desired.
In addition, the possibility also exists of using various casings, for example casings of various depths and / or made from I various materials, with the same form of baseplate.
In the invention, the individual casing is held clamped between the baseplate and the cover plate, and this, for example, by the tightening of those screws which are in any case necessary for mounting the striking plate on a rigid frame.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a movable antilockout device is provided for on the (at least one) latch aperture which, in a specific position, blocks the latch aperture against any penetration or engagement of the door latch. This anti-latching device is a preform made from plastic, which can be fastened on the latch aperture of the cover plate by pushing it in and engaging it.
Moreover, an additional basic advantage of the striking plate according to invention lies in the fact that the individual casing can be manufactured from plastic, and yet a reliable hold can be provided by fixing it between the baseplate and the cover plate whilst, in the present state of the art, a rivet connection for a casing made from plastic would not be without problems.
The sub-claims cover further developments of the subject of the invention. The invention is described in greater detail below, 3 with reference to specific embodiments and using the diagrams. These show:
Fig. 1 Plan view of striking plate according to invention; Fig. 2 Simplified detailed side view of striking plate from Fig. 1, with a latch casing or bolt casing provided for on striking plate; Figs. 3-5 Plan view of baseplate of striking plate f rom Fig. 1, in a section corresponding to line I-I and in a section corresponding to line II-II from Fig. 3; Fig. 6 Plan view of covering plate or cover plate of striking plate from Fig. 1; Figs. 7-9 Front view, side view and plan view of bolt casing or latch casing for use with striking plate from Fig. 1; Fig. 10 Section corresponding to line III-III of Fig. 8 through bolt casing; Figs.11-13 Baseplate of a further embodiment of striking plate according to invention in representations corresponding to Figs. 3-5; Figs. 14-16 Plan view of various cover plates for use with baseplate from Figs. 11-13 Fig. I shows a striking plate which can be mounted, in a manner known in the art, on rigid frames (not shown), and which, in the embodiment shown in Figs. 1-10, has a latch aperture, 2, for the sprung latch of a door lock (not shown), together with a bolt aperture, 3, for the locking bolt of the door lock.
4 In addition, the striking plate, 1, is provided with a casing, 4, on the latch aperture, 2, and on the bolt aperture, 3, of which the casing, 4, on the latch aperture, 2, forms the latch casing and the casing, 4, on the bolt aperture, 3, forms the bolt casing. Both casings are identically made, in the embodiment shown, one delineating the area visible towards the exterior for the latch and the other for the bolt when the striking plate, 1, is mounted.
A peculiarity of the striking plate, 1, lies in the fact that it is formed in several parts, and indeed consists of the two casings, 4, a baseplate, 5, and a cover plate, 6. These elements are described in greater detail below.
Baseplate, 5 As is shown in Figs. 2-5, the baseplate, 5, manufactured from sheet steel by punching and bending, and quenched and subsequently drawn on the surfaces, is formed as a flat Uprofile. The baseplate, 5, which has a rectangular cross-section in plan view (Fig. 3), consequently consists of a rectangular plate body, 7, which is provided, on each of its longitudinal sides, 71, with a leg, 8, projecting over the underside or overside of the plate body, 7. Two rectangular apertures, 9 and 10, are created in the plate body, 7, each lying with its longitudinal extension in a common axis parallel to the longitudinal axis, L, of the baseplate, 5, and with a longitudinal side reaching directly to a leg, 8, provided on a longitudinal side, L'. Each aperture, 9 or 10, is at a distance from the narrow side, 711, of the plate body, 7, lying nearer to it. On their narrow sides, the apertures, 9 and 10, are each provided with an S-shaped upward bend, each of which extends, in the embodiment shown, over the entire width of the aperture, 9 or 10, and each of which forms a striptype bearing surface, 11, and this in the plane of the rear or the underside of the plate body, 7. On the two narrow sides, 711, parallel to the longitudinal axis, L, the plate body, 7, is provided with apertures, 12, and this in each case in the area of a projection, 13, projecting over the underside or rear of the plate body, 7, the said projection forming a conical indentation on the front of the plate body, 7 (Fig. 4). In Fig. 3, Q denotes a transverse axis running vertical to the longitudinal axis, L, which is equidistant from both the narrow sides, 711, of the baseplate, 5.
The two apertures, 12, with the associated projections, 13, are, on each narrow side, 711, reciprocally offset parallel to the said narrow side or to the transverse axis, Q, in an axial direction. In addition, two apertures, 14, are provided for in the area of each narrow side, 711, between the indentations there, 13. In relation to the apertures, 12, the projections, 13, and the apertures, 14, which are reciprocally offset in the direction of the longitudinal axis, L, in the area of each narrow side, 711, the baseplate, 5, is formed symmetrically to the longitudinal axis, L, and also symmetrically to the transverse axis, Q.
In the embodiment shown, the apertures, 9 and 10, are also each identical in size and formation, and are equidistant from the axis, Q.
In addition, a slot, 15, is provided for in the plate body, 7, and lies parallel to the longitudinal axis, L, with its longitudinal extension, and is directly adjacent, in the embodiment shown, to that longitudinal side, 7', at a distance from which are the apertures, 9 and 10.
Cover plate, 6 The cover plate, 6, consists of a flat plate body, 16, which, in the embodiment shown, is equal, or approximately equal, in length and width to the length and width of the baseplate, 5. Apertures, 17 and 18, are provided for in the plate body, 16, which are each rectangular in shape, lie parallel to the longitudinal axis, L', of the plate body, 16, and are equidistant from the transverse axis, Q1, running vertical to the axis, L', or to the 6 longitudinal sides, 161, which in turn is equidistant from the two narrow sides, 1611, of the plate body, 16.
Both apertures, 17 and 18, are again identical in shape and size in the embodiment shown. In addition, the apertures, 17 and 18, are created in such a way, that, when the cover plate, 6, is placed onto the baseplate, 5, or onto the front or overside of the plate body', 7, the aperture, 17, is congruent with the aperture, 9, and the aperture, 18, is congruent with the aperture, 10, with the aperture, 17, and the aperture, 9, forming the latch aperture, 2, and the aperture, 18, and the aperture, 10, forming the bolt aperture, 3, of the striking plate, 1. To this end, the centreline of each aperture, 17 and / or 18, running parallel to the longitudinal axis, L', is at the same distance from the longitudinal axis, L1, as the corresponding transverse centreline of apertures 9 and 10 is from the longitudinal axis, L. In addition, the transverse centreline of each aperture, 17 and 18, is at the same distance from the transverse axis, Q1, as the corresponding transverse centreline of apertures 9 and 10 is from the transverse axis, Q.
As a comparison of Figs. 3 and 6 shows, apertures 17 and 18 are slightly smaller, in terms of length and width, than apertures 9 and 10.
Two slots, 19, are provided for in the plate body, 16, in the area of each of the two narrow sides, 1611, the slots being sunk in the front face of the plate body. The slots, 19, on each narrow side, 16', have the same centre distance from the longitudinal axis, L1, and this a centre distance which is equal to the corresponding distance of the apertures, 12, from the longitudinal axis, L. In addition, the two slots, 19, provided for on the individual narrow side, 1611, are positioned with their axes equivalent to one another and parallel to the transverse axis, Q1, and are equidistant from this transverse axis with the apertures, 12, so that when the cover plate, 6, is placed onto the baseplate, 5, each slot, 19, is congruent with an aperture, 7 12.
The apertures, 17 and 18, are provided with notches, 20, at their longitudinal edges, and this in the area of the upper and lower end and in the centre. These notches, 20, act as catches for a cover element, 21, made in one piece from plastic, and which can be pushed into the aperture, 17 or 18, engaged and fastened, and then can be moved within this aperture in the longitudinal direction, this element acting as an anti- lock device, and blocking, for example, the latch aperture, 2, for the spring lock, by engaging with the central catch, 20, while in an upper or lower position the anti-lock device, 21, releases the latch aperture, 2, for the spring lock (following engagement with the upper or lower catch, 20).
Latch casing gr bolt casing, 4 The casing, 4, shown in Figs. 7-10, can be used equally as a latch casing or as a bolt casing. It consists essentially of a longitudinally expanded casing body, 22, manufactured from plastic by injection moulding, which is made open on the overside, i.e. it forms a rectangular aperture there, and otherwise closed, and this with two longitudinal sides, 23, with two narrow sides, 24, connecting with these, and with a base, 25. As shown, in particular, by Figs. 7 and 10, the casing body, 22, has a cross- section which tapers towards the base, 25, in the section parallel to the narrow sides, 24. On the open side facing away from the base, 25, the casing body, 22, is provided with a bearing surface, 26, formed from an upward bend, on each narrow side, 24. The external cross-section of the casing body, 22, is selected in such a way that, with the base, 25, it can be inserted into the aperture, 9 or 10, with the base, 25, in front, from the front of the baseplate, 5, and this in such a way that each bearing surface, 26, comes into contact with a bearing surface, 11, and the casing, 4, inserted into the aperture, 9 or 10, does not project over the plane of the front of the ba8eplate, 5, with its open side. When the casing, 4, is inserted 8 into the aperture, 9 or 10, the longitudinal sides, 23, are parallel to the longitudinal axis, L, and the narrow sides, 24, are parallel to the transverse axis, Q.
In Figs. 1 and 2, 27 denotes a closing piece made from plastic, which is provided for at the end of the striking plate, 1, and with part of its area reaches into the space on the underside of the baseplate, -5, between the two legs, 8, of the plate body, 7, and with part of its area projects over the narrow side in question and closes off the striking plate, 1, there. In each case, there are two tenons, 28, provided for on the closing piece, 27, which reach into the apertures, 14, and thus hold the closing piece, 27, at least temporarily, during the mounting of the baseplate, 5.
To mount the striking plate, 1, the baseplate, 5, pre-assembled with the closing pieces, 27, is initially fixed on the rigid frame, and this, for example, with the help of a screw passing through the slot, 15, with the legs, 8, and the closing pieces, 27, lying against the rigid frame.
In a next step, depending on the requirements, a casing, 4, is inserted into the aperture, 9 and / or 10, and this with the base, 25, in front. In a further step, the cover plate, 4, is then placed onto the baseplate, 5, and this in such a way that the cover plate is lying with the rear of its plate body, 16, against the front of the baseplate, S. With the help of screws, which each pass through a slot, 19, and an aperture, 12, the baseplate, 5, and the cover plate, 6, can then be definitively f ixed on the rigid f rame, not only with the cover plate, 6, covering the screw present in the slot, 15, and also the apertures, 14, and / or the tenons of the closing pieces passing into these apertures, but also with the casings, 4, inserted in the baseplate, 5, f ixed in. It is also possible, through the screws, 19, to adjust the cover plate, 6, in the direction of the axes, Q and / or Q1, relative to the baseplate, 5, and in this way to adjust the apertures, 17 and 18, optimally, in such a way 9 that, when the latch has engaged with the striking plate, 1, the door does not, for example, rattle in the wind, and / or that when the door is closed the correct "approach" is obtained with the key.
Figs. 11 and 12. show the baseplate, 5a, in a further embodiment of the invention, and this for a striking plate reduced in length, as against the striking plate, 1, the plate body, 7a, of which has only one aperture, namely the aperture, 9. This is made symmetrical to the transverse axis, Q, running vertical to the longitudinal sides, 7a'. In addition, the baseplate, 5a, has the apertures, 12, on the plate body, 7a, in the area of the two narrow sides, 7a", with the associated projections, 13, and the apertures, 14, for the closing piece, 27, and for its tenon, 28 (Fig. 2).
Four bearing surfaces, 11a, are formed on the two narrow sides of the apertures, 9, and this with one bearing surface, 11a, in each corner, in that each strip-type bearing surface, 11, of the baseplate, 5, has been reduced right down to the areas forming the bearing surfaces, 11a, in the corners.
various cover plates, 6a (Fig. 14), 6b (Fig. 15) and 6c (Fig. 16) are provided for the baseplate, 5a. These cover plates are reduced, like the baseplate, 5a, as against the cover plate, 6, and have only one aperture, 29, 30, or 31. In addition, the cover plates, 6a, 6b and 6c, are each provided, on the two narrow sides, 16a", 16b" and 16c" of their plate bodies, 16a, 16b or 16c, with two slots, 19, and this in such a way that, when the cover plate, 6a, 6b or 6c, is placed onto the baseplate, Sa, each slot, 19, is congruent with an aperture, 12, of the baseplate, 5a, and also the apertures, 29, 30 or 31, are congruent with the aperture, 9a. The apertures, 29, 30 and 31, are again smaller in their dimensions than the aperture, 9, so that, when the cover plate in question has been placed onto the baseplate, 5a, the casing inserted into the aperture, 9a, is held there.
The baseplate, 5a, and the associated cover plates, 6a-6c, are used as a striking plate, in particular, where the door lock also operates other bolts, some distance from the main lock, with the cover plate, 6a, being suitable, in particular, for latch bolts, the cover plate, 6b, for rectangular bolts, and the cover plate, 6c, for hook bolts. The apertures covered, 9a and 29, 30 and 31, are the apertures for the latch bolt, rectangular bolt and hook bolt.
The baseplates, 5 and 5a, and the cover plates, 6, 6a-6c, are made from sheet steel in each case, and the surfaces are quenched and subsequently drawn or corrosion-resistant.
The description of the invention above is based on specific embodiments. It should be understood that various alterations are possible, without any abandonment of the basic object of invention.
