Description

2339501 VEFUCLE BRAKING STRENGTH INDICATOR This invention relates to brake
warning lights on all current road vehicles.
Brake lights on vehicles come on when the brakes are applied and off when the brakes are released.
When the brake pedal is pressed the fights come on but, to other road users behind there is no warning of how hard or soft they are braking. Therefore I have thought of a device which will give other road users a warning as to how hard the vehicle in front is braking.
When a vehicle's brakes are pressed a bob weight on a pendulum held back by a return spring and connected to a potentiometer (variable resister) will start to move forward, once the braking strength is any more than gentle.
On gentle braking the brake lights will come on as per normal, but however once the braking starts to become heavier the brake fights will start to flash alternately and slowly, then the heavier the braking, the faster the brake lights will flash (alternately).
Can be as above but also you could leave the brake lights of the rear cluster as standard and put 2 braking lights in the rear window situated at the top on either side for the alternate flashing.
A third edition would be to have the hazard warning lights come on (for say 10 seconds) in the event of an emergency stop, or excessively hard braking.
Many accidents (especially on motorways) are caused purely because of peoples ignorance as to how hard the vehicle is braking in front. My invention would forewarn motorists as to how hard the vehicle in front was braking thus giving more warning to slow down.
I believe that this would significantly reduce the amount of accidents on our roads today.
The potentiometer would be connected to a electronic circuit capable of doing the above.

Claims (2)

1. The device will make car brake fights come on under gentle braking, then as braking becomes harder and harder the brake lights will flash (alternately) faster and faster respectively.
2. Under emergency or excessive braking in addition to the brake lights flashing (alternately) the hazard warning lights would flash in the normal manner for ten (10) seconds.
