Abstract

A tray 1 is removably mounted on an arm of a two post vehicle lift by means of a U-shaped bracket 5, so that tools and parts are within reach of the service engineer. The tray has a lip 7 to prevent articles from rolling off the edge. The tray may be mounted on top of the bracket as shown, or may be suspended below it (Fig 6). A safety bolt 8 retains the bracket on the arm. The tray may have holes 2 to accommodate screwdrivers, forked hooks 3 to hold spanners, and receptacles to hold containers of oil.

Description

VEHICLE SERVICING WORK HOLDER This invention relates to a removable tool and parts tray which can be fitted to the arms of a two post vehicle lift.
Two post vehicle lifts are well known for vehicle servicing purposes and comprise two upright posts each of which supports two horizontal legs which engage the underside of the vehicle.
Two post lifts do not provide a specific facility to retain parts or tools within easy reach of the service engineer who is usually forced to place such parts or tools on the ground necessitating frequent bending to retrieve such parts or tools.
According to the present invention there is provided a tray like receptacle made of metal, polyethylene, ABS, polyester, epoxide or similar rigid reinforced or nonreinforced polymeric material or wood either fabricated or moulded to shape. The tray is desirably fixed in an essentially horizontal position to the horizontal lifting arms of the lift by a bracket attachment so as to provide a work height resting place for tools and parts.
Altemative bracket shapes may be provided so as to fit a range of different manufacturers lifts and said brackets may be provided with fittings to enable the working height of the tray to be adjusted in relation to the height of the lift arms.
The tray may be provided with an optional variety of holes and fittings to hold screwdrivers, spanners, sockets and like tools. Special fittings to support specific vehicle parts may also be provided as well as receptacles to hold containers of oils and liquids which may be required for the vehicle servicing operations.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows the tray in perspective.
Figure 2 shows the tray fitted to one upright of a two post lift.
Figure 3 shows a plan view of the tray.
Figure 4 shows a cross section of the tray without the mounting bracket.
Figure 5 shows an end view with a non-adjustable mounting bracket attached.
Figure 6 shows an end view with a non-adjustable mounting bracket of alternative working height attached.
The tray 1 is provided with a number of holes of various sizes 2 to accommodate elongate tools such as screwdrivers. Provided on one edge is a series of forked hooks 3 to hold spanners of various sizes. The bracket 5 is fixed to the tray 1 by conventional threaded fasteners 4 and may be interchanged with the underslung bracket 6 to obtain other working heights with respect to the lift arm. A lip 7 around the edge of the tray serves to prevent articles laid loose on the tray from rolling of the edge. A safety bolt 8 is fitted to either brackets 5 or 6 used to ensure the bracket does not become disengaged from the lift arm.

Claims (8)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A device for supporting items to be used at a work location, the device comprising a platform member for receiving said items, a peripheral member connected to the platform for preventing said items from rolling or sliding off the platform, and bracket means adapted for removably connecting the platform to apparatus at said work location.
  2. 2. A device according to Claim 1, wherein the platform and peripheral member are formed by the base and upstanding peripheral wall respectively of a shallow tray.
  3. 3. A device according to Claim 1 or 2, wherein said platform has holes therein for receiving the shanks of tools such as screwdrivers.
  4. 4. A device according to Claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein one or more forked hooks are provided along an edge of the platform for receiving one or more spanners.
  5. 5. A device according to Claim 1, 2, 3, or 4, wherein the bracket means comprises a horizontally disposed U-shaped member for engaging a horizontal bar forming part of said apparatus, and a safety bolt connected to the U-shaped member for preventing disengagement between the U shaped member and the horizontal bar.
  6. 6. A device according to Claim 5, wherein the U-shaped member is connected to the platform from beneath and for the platform to lie over the bar.
  7. 7. A device according to Claim 5, wherein the U-shaped member lies above the platform and is connected thereto by a connecting member, whereby the platform lies beneath and spaced from the bar.
  8. 8. A supporting device substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
