Abstract

Road wheel nuts are prevented from loosening by vibration, by means of locking clips, each clip engaging a pair of adjacent nuts. The clips are made of spring steel, and are a push fit onto the nuts.

Description

ROAD WHEEL NUT SAFTEY LOCK CLIP This invention relates to a road wheel nut safety lock clip Road wheel nuts on transportation vehicles have no means of being locked on to the wheel hub stud This road wheel nut safety lock clip attaches to two wheel nuts on the road wheel. If there are ten studs as on commercial vehicles then five road wheel nut safety lock clips will be required. Road wheel nuts will not be allowed to become loose due to vibration of the road wheel.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of an example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which; Figure 1 shows a drawing of the road wheel nut safety lock clip Figure 2 shows an edge plan of the device Figure 3 shows the device applied to two road wheel nuts Referring to the drawing one device is to be fitted to two road wheel nuts as in figure 3 illustrated, e.g. ten wheel nut studs would require five of the devices.
The device is a once only fit and should be re-newed every time a road wheel is changed. This device should be fitted after road wheel nuts have been tightened to the correct specific torque settings for that vehicle. The device is made in various sizes to fit different road wheel nut studs sizes.
The device is manufactured from spring steel and is a push fit onto road wheel nuts

  1. CLAIMS A road wheel nut safety lock clip which by design does not allow road wheels nuts to become loose due to vibration of the road wheel.
