Abstract

232,767. Marks, E. C. R., (Ansaldo Soc. Anon.). April 11, 1924. Submarine vessels.-In submarines of the type in which the contour of the midships section consists of the partial peripheries of two different circles, the connecting member, such as a metallic wall F or struts, joining the ends A, B oF the circular portions is constructed so as tobe capable of withstanding appreciable thrust whilst the two compartments are used for housing the machinery for driving the twin-screw propellers. On both sides of the midship section the structure, whilst remaining at the same height, tapers horizontally to follow the lines A of the hull, this contour is obtained by shifting the centres of the circle towards one anotheruntil they merge in a single circle 1. Towards the stem and stern the structure may be of conical form or alternatively towards the bow end the section may be constituted by two circular segments intersecting in a horizontal plane R.
