Description

INDUCTION SHAFT EXHAUST SHAFT COMBUSTION CONTROL OR I.S.E.S.
DESCRIPTION To replace conventional inlet and exhaust valves operated by chamshaft so eliminating reciprocating components incorporated in the valve and rocker gear used on an internal combustion engine.
I.S.E.S. may be incorporated in the cylinder head or cylinder block.
Single or multi-rotating I.S.E.S. running in parallel to the cranckshaft timed in sequence to the position of the crankshad and piston. I.S.E.S. rotate at half crank speed.
I.S.E.S. kept in timing by chains, belt, shaft or gears. I.S.E.S. have ports drilled or forged diagonally through the shaft. The ports abow fuel/air or burnt gases to flow through. Fuel/air parr from induction manifold through port in induction shaft direct into cylinder. Exhaust gases flow from cylinder through exhaust shaft into exhaust manifold.
I.S.E.S. rotate in an enclosed lubricating sleeve.
I.S.E.S. ports have seals to create a gas-tight seal and to stop I.S.E.S. lubricating oil entering cylinder or loss of oil via the exhaust shaft.
On the induction stroke as the piston travels downward, the induction shaft rotates to a position which aligns the ports in the shaft which the inner port of the cylinder allowing a direct flow path from induction manifold to cylinder. At the end of bottom dead centre the induction shaft rotates into a closed position the exhaust shaft is also in the closed position. The cylinder is now sealed allowing compression and power strokes to take piece.
On the exhaust stroke the induction shaft remains in the closed position. As the piston travels upwards the exhaust shaft being timed in sequence rotates into a position aligning the inner exhaust port with the exhaust shaft port direct into the exhaust manifold, allowing the exhaust gases to leave the cylinder.
I.S.E.S. rotate at half crank shaft speed. On each stroke of the piston I.S.E.S. rotate one quarter of a turn.
When I.S.E.S. is incorporated in the block the cylinder head can be of simple design, more of an inspection cover, housing only injectors and spark plugs.
