Abstract
A tea bag has an ancillary pocket 2 suitable to receive the bowl 3 of a spoon whereby the bag can be manipulated during use in a cup or mug. The pocket 2 is formed by an extra ply of the same or a different material to that of the rest of the bag. The bag and the pocket can be round, square or of other shapes. For teapot use, bags may be merely dropped into the pot.
Description
DUAL ROLE TEABAG
The invention relates to a dual role teabag, one which can be used to brew tea in either a teapot or a cup. An alternative name for the new style teabag is the Spoon-a-Cuppa.
In order to maximise its leaf to water contact, a bag designed for the teapot is of a reasonable size and is made from a well perforated, light-weight material. This introduces inherent problems when the same bag is used to brew tea directly within a cup: 1. The teabag floats to the surface and partially comes in
contact with cooling air.
2. It cannot readily be agitated, to increase the water flow.
3. Without an attached string, the bag cannot easily be removed
and it retains an excess of liquid.
According to the present invention, there is provided a teabag with a 'pouch' into which the bowl of a tea-spoon can be inserted to provide, in effect, a 'handle' to the bag via which it can be manipulated when brewing tea directly within a cup or mug.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the following diagrams:
Figure 1 shows a two-ply teabag; round in the example, but
could be square or any shape.
Figure 2a shows a third ply, of the same or a more perforated
material, ready for attachment to form the pouch.
Figure 2b shows a third ply with the same manufactured shape as
is the two-ply.
Figure 3 shows a possible third ply shape for a square teabag,
as an alternative to using Fig 2a or Fig 2b.
Figure 4. shows the bowl '3' of a tea-spoon inserted into the
pouch '2', formed (in this case) by attaching Fig 2a
to Fig I over the area marked '1'.
Figure 5. shows the Spoon-a-Cuppa teabag in use.
During manufacture a two-ply teabag (round in Fig 1) has a third ply (Fig 2a or Fig 2b) attached to one surface over the area marked '1'. This forms the pouch '2' with a slot wide enough to accept the bowl of a tea-spoon 3', as in Fig 4. Via the handle formed, the bag can be lowered into a cup (Fig 5) and has the following features: 1. The weight of the spoon hold the bag down in the water '4'.
2. The bag can be agitated, for that stronger cuppa.
3. It is easy to remove the bag, which can be squeezed against
the inside of the cup to reduce excess liquid.
4. The bag can then be discarded by holding the spoon
vertically and giving it a slight flick.
For teapot use, drop one or more bags into the pot as normal.
Claims (4)
1. A dual role teabag with a slot entered 'pouch' into which the bowl of a tea-spoon can be inserted to provide, in effect, a 'handle' to the bag, via which it can be manipulated when brewing tea directly within a cup or mug.
2. A dual role teabag, as claimed in Claim 1, with the 'pouch' formed by attaching an extra ply of the same or of a different shape to that of the two-ply containing the tea.
3. A dual role teabag, as claimed in Claim 1 and in Claim 2, with the 'pouch' formed by attaching an extra ply of the same or of a different material to that of the two-ply containing the tea.
4. A dual role teabag substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1-5 of the accompanying diagrams.
