Abstract

A grating for a container, such as a container for cooling articles and goods standing on the grating, comprises tubular bars (1) which are disposed substantially in parallel and between which intermediate spaces (2) are formed. In operation, cooling gases (3) such as cold air is guided from the front end of the container to the rear end of the container at which a door is provided, in part in the tubular bars (1) and in part in the intermediate spaces (2) between the bars. The bars are preferably of glass fibre-reinforced plastics material, eg a fibre cloth impregnated with resin.

Description

1 2321297 GRATING FOR A CONTAINER, SUCH AS AN INSULATING AND/OR COOLING
CONTAINER The invention concerns a grating for a container.
Such a grating in particular for an insulating and/or cooling container can have bars which are arranged substantially parallel, for guiding cooling gas, such as cold air, in the bottom region of the container.
In conventional insulating and cooling containers the article or goods stand on a grid comprising a plurality of TT-bars which extend in parallel relationship. Those bars are open inwardly over their full length. That arrangement is intended to provide that heavy cold air flows from the front end of the container to the door end (rear end) and uniformly cools articles on the grating. In practice however the cold air flows in a random and uncontrolled fashion so that only an inadequate amount of cold air arrives at the door end (rear end of the container). That results in an unacceptably large temperature difference between the front part and the rear part of the container.
According to the inventor there is provided a grating for a container comprising bars disposed substantially in parallel, for guiding cooling gas in the bottom region of the container, the bars being of a tubular configuration, and in use of the container the cooling gas being guided partially in the tubular bars and partially in intermediate spaces between the bars from the front end of the container to the rear end of the container.
Such a grating can provide for a uniform distribution of cold air in the container.
This grating substantially comprises tubular bars which are closed upwardly and which preferably are of a rectangular cross-section. The bars are arranged in mutually parallel relationship, with an intermediate space being provided between adjacent bars. That arrangement ensures that a part of the cold air is conveyed in a defined manner from the front end of the container to the rear end (door end), through the tubular bars which are substantially closed upwardly and also towards the side. Cold air is also conveyed in the intermediate spaces between the bars.
2 Preferably at most 50% of the cold air can possibly also be additionally controlled by the openings in the bars.
The bars are preferably produced from fibre-reinforced and in particular glass fibre-reinforced plastics material so that they have extremely smooth surfaces and do not have any surface pores, in contrast to conventional aluminium bars. For example the fibre- reinforced plastics material can be formed from a fibre cloth which is impregnated with resin, in particular epoxy resin. In that case the fibres can be arranged in a layer-wise manner, with the fibre layers being laid in two directions of orientation which extend transversely with respect to each other.
The invention is diagrammatically illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing which shows a portion of a grating which is arranged at the bottom of a container. The grating comprises a plurality of tubular bars 1 which are arranged in mutually parallel relationship and which are substantially of a rectangular cross-section. In the illustrated embodiment the bars 1 are closed towards all sides including upwardly. If necessary however openings can be provided in the bars in order to provide for an additional control of the cold air. The bars extend from the front end of the container to the rear end (door end) thereof. Cold air is fed at the front end in known manner, for example through a slot (not shown) extending over the width of the container, in the front wall of the container. The cold air is guided in the cavities of the tubular bars 1 and in intermediate spaces 2 between the bars in a rearward direction as indicated by an arrow 3 in the bottom region of the container. The bars and possibly a bottom plate 4 on which the bars 1 are shaped or moulded comprise fibre-reinforced and in particular glass fibre-reinforced plastics material.
The bars can be glued onto an already existing bottom plate which could be of metal. It is however also possible for the bars to be produced in a mould from one piece with a bottom plate 4, as is illustrated in the drawing.
