Abstract

A storage unit for track, trains and other accessories using the recognised and established "Brio" track gauge and linking method which converts to become an engine shed, train station or similar. This being facilitated by a side, lid or similar 1 folding down and linking it's grooved track 2 to an existing train track layout by means of a track link or coupling system 3 as used with the aforementioned toy train sets. The box is aesthetically decorated to simulate a train station, engine shed or similar "train" building. It is designed to be manufactured in component form to be assembled by the buyer as a kit.

Description

TOY TRAIN SET ACCESSORY This invention relates to a storage box I engine shed for use with wooden train sets using the Brio format of track gauge and linking method.

The Brio wooden train set has been a popular toy for many years and has been copied and marketed by several other companies. These sets are all compatible with one another and link together by means of a male and female coupling. No company at present manufactures a storage unit that can be incorporated into the child's play with the sets.

My accessory to that range of toy train set is a simple invention to :a) Provide a secure storage box for the trains, track and accessories when not in use.

b) Double up as building, such as an engine shed / train station or similar, wherein a track layout can be linked up to the tracks machined into the lid / side or similar of the box.

c) supply the manufactured components in kit form to be assembled by the customer.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of visual examples on page 5 and 6 accompanied by referenced text : Figure 1 Shows the box in perspective laying on its side with its lid 1 open, ready to be utilised into a track layout as an engine shed.

Figure 2 Shows the box in perspective with its hinged lid closed and held shut by some fixing means.

Figure 3 Shows the box open as in Fig 1 with an example of how compatible track might be linked up to it.

The drawings illustrate flat packable medium density fibre board, solid timber or other suitable material. Which are machined with grooves, rebates and pre-drilled holes for fixings, Which when assembled form a simple but rigid box.

Once assembled, a hinged lid 1 with track grooves 2 and female coupling 3 machined into its surface link up to a track layout. Self adhesive decoration, such as windows etc. are supplied to enhance the aesthetic qualities of the building.

Claims (4)

1. A secure storage box for toy trains, track and other accessories when not in use, which when its hinged lid, side or similar component, is folded down it can be built into a track layout using the recognised Brio track gauge and coupling system, wherein the box can be incorporated into the child's play with the sets as an engine shed, train station or similar.

2. A box as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the components are flat packed in kit form to be assembled by the customer.

3. A box as claimed in any preceding claim wherein a hinged lid or side is provided with a catchment means to hold the lid or side securely closed.
