Abstract

There is disclosed a de-bonding sleeve of the kind adapted to receive an end of a metal wall tie and having one open end and one closed end, characterised by an aperture (16) through at least one side thereof spaced from the closed end of the sleeve at a distance corresponding with the desired extent of insertion of the end of the tie.

Description

De-Bonding Sleeve This invention concerns a de-bonding sleeve of the kind having one open end and one closed end, which is fitted over the ends of metal wall ties to prevent the ties from bonding with the mortar of the joints into which the ties are inserted. In this way any movement between the joints and tie is accommodated within the sleeve and does not affect the integrity of the mortar joint.
However, in order that such movement, which may be up to 1 cm in extreme cases, can be accommodated within the sleeve it is important that the end of the tie is spaced from the closed end of the sleeve by this distance.
It is known to provide small stops within the sleeve to give an indication of the correct extent of insertion of the tie. Such stops are not of such size as to prevent over-insertion. Were they so, the objective of allowing for expansion without movement of the sieeve would be defeated, of ourse.
The present invention provides a de-bonding sleeve with means allowing visual confirmation that insertion has been correctly executed.
According to the present invention, there is provided a de-bonding sleeve ofthe kind adapted to receive an end of a metal wall tie and having one open end and one closed end, characterised by an aperture through at least one side thereof spaced from the closed end of the sleeve at a distance corresponding with the desired extent of insertion of the end of the tie.
The invention will be further apparent from the following description, with reference to the several figures of the accompanying drawing, which show, by way of example only, one form of de-bonding sleeve embodying same.
Of the drawing: Figure 1 shows a plan view of the sleeve; Figure 2 shows a side view of the sleeve; Figure 3 shows a cross-section through the sleeve on the line III - III ofFigure 1; Figure 4 shows a cross-section through the sleeve on the line IV-IVofFigure 2; and Figure 5 shows a cross-section throug the sleeve on the line V - V of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawing, it will be seen that the de-bonding sleeve 10 is of shallow rectangular section having a closed end 11 and an open end 12. The sleeve is of a moulded plastics material.
The end of a metal wall tie may be inserted through the open end 12 of the sleeve 10 to abut the outer ends of upper and lower ribs 13 extending outwardly from the closed end 11 ofthe sleeve 10 on the inner faces ofthe top 14 and bottom 15 walls of the sleeve.
The ribs 13 are not of such size as to prevent over insertion ofthe end ofthe tie.
There is an aperture 16 through the walls 14 and 15 spaced from the closed ends 11 at the desired position for the extent of insertion to enable a visual check of correct insertion before the tie with the de-bonding sleeves in place is installed.
It will be appreciated that it is not intended to limit the invention to the above example only, many variations, such as might readily occur to one skilled in the art, being possible, without departing from the scope thereof.

Claims (4)

1. A de bonding sleeve of the kind adapted to receive an end of a metal wall tie and having one open end and one closed end, characterised by an aperture through at least one side thereof spaced from the closed end of the sleeve at a distance corresponding with the desired extent of insertion of the end of the tie.
2. A de bonding sleeve according to claim 1 wherein the sleeve is of a moulded plastics material.
3. A de bonding sleeve according to claim 1 or claim 2 wherein there are ribs extending outwardly from the closed end of the sleeve on inner faces thereof to prevent over insertion of the end of the tie.
4. A de bonding sleeve according to claim 3 wherein the ribs are on the top and bottom walls of the sleeve.
