231,528. Marguerre, F. K. March 28, 1924, [Convention date]. Addition to 228,151. Hot-water storage apparatus.-In a system for storing heat by means of a feed-water accumulator, as described in the parent Specification, some of the power available in the steam is utilized by first passing it through a suitable engine before its introduction into the accumulator. Water from a hot well 1 passes through a pump 2 to an economizer 3 and thence through a pipe 7 to a feedwater heater 22. Steam passes from the boiler 11 through superheater 12 to main steam pipe 13. A branch pipe 35 takes some steam to a turbine 24 which exhausts into the feedwater heater 22, and the heated water is then forced by a pump 23 through the 3-way valve 4 which is described in the parent Specification, either to the top or the bottom of the accumulator 6 according as the pressure in the boiler is high or low. Superheated steam is supplied by a pipe 25 to raise the temperature of the feedwater as near that of the boiler as possible. Modifications are described in which the transfer of heat from the steam to the water in the heater 22 takes place through a heat interchanger, in which case the pump 23 is unnecessary.
