Abstract

A roof rack comprises a frame 1 supported on a vehicle roof by means of straps or belts 2. The straps are fastened together inside the vehicle by quick release buckles 3. The roof rack can be fitted easily to vehicles with or without roof gutters.

Description

QUICK MOUNT ROOF RACK This invention velates to a quickly mountable/demountable roof rack.
Motor car roof racks are well known motor car accessories made of steel frames and mounted by various fittings to a motor car roof, enabling the motor car to be used to convey large and unweildy items which cannot be loaded inside the motor car, Roof racks however are fixed by bolts and clamps to the guttering around the roofs of older model cars. Newer cars do not have this guttering and special roof racks for each model of motor car has to be manufactured, which are relatively expensive.
According to the present invention there is d motor car roof rac') which car be fitted to the majority of o'd and sled model motor cars by a mounting system common to all models. The roof rack comprises of a steel frame, straps or belts which support the roof rack or too of the motor car roof, straps or bel ts which hold the roof rack ir pos i t ior or too of the motor car roof, ore way tightening/quick release buckles/fasteners for tightening the straps or belts holding the roof rack in position and steel U bends for fixing the straps or bends to the steel frame A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompaning drawings in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective, the roof rack and its essential parts Figure 2 illustrates the roof rack mounted in position on top of a motor car roof Refering to the drawing Figure 1, the roof rac comprises or" d steel frame 1, straps or belts 2, one way tightening/quick release buckles/fasteners 3 and steel U bends 4, for fixing the straps or belts ts to the steer frame Refer to the drawing Figure 2, to mount t the roof rack to the motor car roof Open the four doors of te motor car, or if a who door motor car. the two doors and the rear side windows, Place the roof rack on top of the motor car roof resting it on the support straps or belts.
Pull the loose straps or belts together inside the motor car and fasten them together using the one way tightening/quick release buckles/fasteners Close the motor car doors and the roof rack is ready for use To remove the roof rack from the motor car roof, the described above are carried out in the reverse sequence.

Claims (3)

  1. CLAIMS A quick mount roof rack comprising of a steel frame is fitted on to of a motor car roof by:- 1 Supporting it on top of the roof by means of straps or belts said across the top of he roof.
  2. 2 Securing it in place on top of the roof by straps or belts being tied together inside the motor car.
  3. 3 As claimed in 2 the straps or bets being tied together Inside the motor car by means of one way tightening/quick release buckles/fasteners.
    Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows A quick mount roof rack. comprising of e steel frame is fitted in position on top of 3 motor car roof by:- 1 Securing it is place on top of the roof by straps or belts being tied together inside the motor car 2 As claimed in 1, the straps or belts being tied together inside the motor car by means of one way tightening/quick release buckles/fasteners 3 This method of securing roof racks io the top of motor car roofs can be used for fixing other items to motor car roofs, such as advertising board displays See drawing Figure 3.
