Abstract

A security post has a base, which when hinged into the installation position and fixed firmly into the ground, provides a fixing for a channel section post attached to the base by a fixed pin to hinge/slide along a slot allowing the post to either be stored completely flush to the ground or secured in the upright position by the integral bullet lock to provide a secure barrier. A hole and handle are provided to ease operation. To ease packaging and transport the guide/locator can be hinged up. At any point of use/operation the security post remains an integral unit.

Description

COLLAPSIBLE SECURITY POST This invention relates to a retractable security post.
Security posts are well known items and usually take two basic forms:1. Usually round in section and secured to the ground by abase plate. When not in use the post folds down but parts remain protruding above ground level. A loose padlock is usually used to secure the post in the upright position.
2. A more robust version usually compromising of a box section post that locates into a larger section that is installed in the ground. When not in use the loose main post has to be stored separately. A loose padlock is usually used to secure the post in the upright position.
Both act to varying degrees as security posts but have inbuilt disadvantages namely protrusions above ground and/or loose items when not in use.
According to the present invention there is a security post that when in use provides the maximum reasonable strength and security and when not in use is stored self contained flush to the ground with no loose parts.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Drawing 1 shows inside elevation the post assembly as seen before installation position to allow compact packaging and transport.
Drawing 2 shows inside elevation the post assembly as installed in the ground with the post in its unlocked prone position.
Drawing 3 shows in end elevation the post assembly as installed in the unlocked prone position.
Drawing 4 shows inside and end elevation the post assembly as installed in the ground in its raised and locked position.
Referring to the drawing the post assembly compromises a folded u shaped base section with hinged box guides and a secured bullet lock with the barrel to the lock permanently retained. A movable girder section post with a hole and handle to assist operation secured to the base section by a permanent pin that runs in the slot to allow lateral movement and hinging action. Once in the upright position the post is locked by the bullet lock pin locating into a suitably positioned hole. When in the prone position the post is completely flush to ground level.
Once installed to operate the post, lift the post from the base section by means of the hole (A) then utilising the handle (B) hinge the post around the pin into the vertical position, then allowing the post to fall down the guide/locator until it reaches the end of the slot, once in this position push the barrel of the bullet lock into the locking hole, to retract the post unlock the lock and reverse the above procedure.

Claims (9)

1. A security post compromising a post in the form of a channel section, a base in base in the form of a folded section, means for securing the post in the upright position, a guide/locator in the form of a hinged box section. The post been adapted to slide and hinge around a fixed pin.
2. A security post as in claim 1 that once installed but not in use is completely flush to the ground.
3. A security post as in claim 1 that utilised a fixed pin to allow movement of the post whilst maintaining integrity.
4. A security post as in claim 1 that is whatever state of use retains its overall integrate.
5. A security post as in claim 1 that possesses an integral locking device.
6. A security post as in claim 1 provided with a hinged guide/locator to enable ease of packing and transport that once installed provides a firm fixing for the base and suitable guidance for the hinged post.
7. A security post as in claim 1 that utilises a slot in the post to allow sliding movement and hinging of the post.
8. A security post as in claim 1 that utilises a hole and fixed handle to ease operation of the post.
