Abstract
231,253. Baker, W. S. Graff-. Jan. 7, 1924. Tandem-cylinder engines for operating railway carriage doors and for other purposes comprises end-on and communicating cylinders 1, 2 with connected differential pistons 4, 5 and a dividing wall 9 through the stuffing-box of which passes a piston-rod 6, a control valve or valves 13, 14 being provided in the by-pass passage 11. When pressure fluid is admitted at 12 to the space between the pistons and the port 7 is open to exhaust the pistons are shifted to the left and a movable member such as a door-operating shaft is rotated through rack-gearing 8. This movement is reversed when pressure fluid is admitted at 7 at the same or any pressure greater than that existing between the pistons.
