Abstract

230,976. Rose, W., and Rose Bros. (Gainsborough), Ltd. Feb. 27, 1924. Guillotine type.-A pair of rolls 35, 38 are continuously and positively driven through gearing 34, 26, 31, 50, 47, 45, 46 from a shaft 2. The upper roll 38 is carried in a frame pivoted on a shaft 41 and pressed towards the roll 35 bv a heavv mass 44. A second pair of rolls 54, 55 are intermittently rotated from the shaft 2 through a Geneva stop mechanism 11, 6, 25, 23, 24 and gearing 20, 71, 65, 60, 58, 77. The upper roll 55 is held in a pivoted frame and is pressed towards the roll 54 by a light mass 76. The web 53 is fed continuously through the rolls 35, 38 and intermittently through the rolls 54, 55 so that the material between the rolls becomes looped. The feed of the rolls 54, 55 is slightly greater than that of the rolls 35, 38, the rolls 54, 55 slipping over the web when the latter is taut. A movable blade 82 co-operates with a blade 80 to sever the web. The length of web cut is varied by change-wheels in the roller gearing. Specification 4481/03 is referred to.
