Description

A Multimedia Presentation Installation for Public Traffic Means This invention relates to a multimedia presentation installation for public traffic means which are driving on one or several different tours and are periodically passing predetermined areas of the respective tour or are stopping at these areas.
From the German Gebrauchsmuster G 94 06 261.7 there is already known a multimedia-presentation facility which is installed at stations of public traffic means and which comprises a light valve projector and a projection surface which is arranged spaced apart from this light valve projector. By means of this light valve projector a text, standing images, graphic images or moving images are visible displayed on this projection surface so that passengers for example on underground stations or S-train stations can be informed about different events, organisations or also about time-table changes.
The information transfer, however, is limited to the local stationary area of the respective station.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a multimedia presentation installation for public traffic means of the kind mentioned above which offers the possibility to represent in particular actual information to the passengers during the drive with a public traffic means.
According to the invention this object is solved in that a) at least at one of predetermined areas as for example traffic stations, to which the respective traffic means are periodically moving, a stationary transceiver unit having a short distance transmitting power is arranged, b) the traffic means comprises at least an own transceiver unit capable of exchanging data with said at least one stationary transceiver unit if it is moving into the short distance tansmitting area of the stationary transceiver unit, and c) said at least one movable transceiver unit is connected to display means for displaying the received data and/or specific other data in a visible form.
Therefore, with the multimedia presentation installation according to the invention between the movable transceiver unit and the stationary transceiver unit no continuously prevailing communication is existing, but this communication is built up only for a short time either with passing the respective traffic station or with stopping at the respective traffic station. During this relatively short time period a message exchange is realized between said at least one movable transceiver unit and said stationary transceiver unit similar like a motor vehicle which is moving in time intervals to a fuel station for taking up new fuel at this station.
The advantage of the inventive principle consists in that with a high security an erroneous or a not complete data transfer is excluded because at least at the traffic station area always an interference free signal transfer is ensured.
According to the invention the most actual messages which are in particular concerning the traffic situation, organizations, changes of time-tables etc. can be displayed so that the passengers can be informed in time during their drive about traffic situations and changed time-tables.
As traffic means each kind of public traffic means is suitable as for example each kind of rail vehicle like an underground train, S-train or a long distance train having a plurality of carriages. Moreover the traffic means can be comprised of a bus used for the public traffic or also of a passenger ship which periodically reaches predetermined stop stations at which a message exchange can then be realized between the on-board transceiver and the stationary transceiver.
To get more in details, the invention can be advantageously improved in that as well the stationary as also the at least one movable transceiver unit comprises an own central control means which controls the data exchange, the time sequence of programs to be transmitted or to be displayed and controls also the selective selection of data to be displayed, updating of data and the cancellation of predetermined data.
Therewith it is necessary that as well said at least one movable transceiver unit as also said stationary transceiver unit comprises random access memory means. Such a memory means can be comprised for example of a disk memory having a comparatively high storage capacity.
A message transmission which is in particular effective in connection with drive vehicles having a plurality of carriages or trailers can be achieved by arranging as well within the drive vehicle as also within said carriages or trailers an independent transceiver unit having an own display screen, respectively, which transceiver units can also exchange data one with the other.
Thus it is for example possible to transfer specific information to the driver of the drive vehicle which have no meaning for the remaining passengers, whereas information which is important for the passengers can still be transmitted as for example time-table changes, common traffic situations etc.
According to the invention also the data exchange is selectively controllable so as to divide up information selectively to different display screens.
A further possibility which can be realized with the multimedia presentation facility according to the invention consists in that at least one of said movable transceiver units is connected to a video camera for realizing a video supervision.
A total control of the presentation system can be realized in a specially advantage manner in that according to the invention the stationary transceiver unit is connected to a central station by means of an ISDN interface. From this central station predetermined information programs can then be selected, can be transferred to the respective stationary transceiver units and can be stored there and, with an arrival of a correspondingly equiped public traffic means, can be transferred to the respective movable transceiver units.
An advantage improvement of the invention consists in that also the stationary transceiver unit is connected to a video camera so that also railway stations, underground railway stations, S-train station etc, can be survived.
In the following description the invention will be explained by means of an embodiment with reference to the accompaning drawings, the single figure of which shows schematically the multimedia presentation installation in the form of a block diagram having the features of the present invention.
According to the single figure a stationary transceiver unit is commonly indicated by the reference number 1 whereas a movable transceiver unit is indicated by 2. The movable transceiver unit 2 can be provided in a multiple performance for example within different carriages or trailers of a public bus.
The stationary transceiver unit 1 is installed at a stop station or it can also be installed at an area of a drive path at which a predetermined public traffic means is relatively slowly moving (passing by). The stationary transceiver unit is equiped with an ISDN interface 5 which is connected with a central station 3 (Z) by means of a radio link or a connection cable. The central station 3 is coupled to the transmission path Tr through an ISDN interface 4. From the central station 3 (Z) predetermined programs to be displayed, text, standing pictures or also moving pictures can be transmitted to the respective stationary transceiver unit 1. This data is stored within memory means 7(Bo) in order to be read out or made effective at a given time. Each stationary transceiver unit 1 includes a control means 6 (processor unit CPUo) which can be programmed through the central station 3 so as to control as well the time sequence of the output of predetermined programs to be displayed as also for selecting programs, updating the same or erasing the same and for transmitting predetermined data to the central station (for example from a video record).
Each stationary transceiver unit is equiped with an activation means which is not indicated but which can be activated by means of an activation signal transmitted from the movable transceiver unit in order to enable the stationary transceiver unit to start with the data exchange with one or with several movable transceiver units. The control means 6 can also be connected to a video camera 9 (Vko) for example in order to also realize a supervising of the respective traffic station, said image data being either transmitted to the central station 3 or also to the driver of the respective traffic means.
The stationary transceiver unit 1 is further equiped with a transmitterlreceiver (transceiver) which comprises a short distance transmitting power which is limited to the rail station area, stop station area 8. The message exchange is realized over a transmit distance S which is relatively short and is also limited to a maximum of a few hundred meters.
As it is shown in the single figure several mobile transceiver units 2 can simultaneously be present within the area 8 so that with each mobile transceiver unit data can be exchanged either in a time sequence or also simultaneoulsy through the respective transceivers Ti, T2, T3...
In view of the fact that with public traffic means as for example a train the carriages are frequently exchanged it is necessary that each carriage will be equiped with an own transceiver unit. Each of the mobile transceiver units comprises an own control means CPU1, CPU2, CPU3... (central processor unit) and an own memory means B1, B2, B3..., respectively, for storing the respective data. Each control means CPU1, CPU2, CPU3 ... (processor unit) is connected to an own display screen S1, S2, S3... so that for example in case of a train the train driver has an own display screen available whereas within the succeeding carriages a respective information display screen or also several information display screens are present.
With this arrangement also the possibility is given that with moving to a station which is equiped with a stationary transceiver unit only one transceiver of the mobile units is activated in order to realize the data exchange. Thereafter during the further drive the respective transceiver unit can transmit the received or exchanged data to the neighbouring mobile transceiver units.
Moreover also each of the mobile transceiver units can be equiped with an own survying video camera as is the case with the transceiver unit shown on the left side of the drawing which is connected to a video camera VK1.
It is obvious for a person skilled in the art that the disclosed multimedia presentation system can be programmed in very different ways so as to display for example also the next following station, the next underground traffic station, S-train station, landing place etc.
Moreover also an interactive use of the installation by means of an other person (for example a driver) is possible.
Furthermore the multimedia presentation installation according to the invention can also be advantageously used for transmitting warning signals or alarm signals.
Furthermore it is obvious for a person skilled in the art that the multimedia presentation system described above can be modified in many aspects without departing from the scope of the present invention.
For example it is also possible to connect the stationary transceiver unit 1 with a projection facility or with a suitable flat image screen so as to display also information at the respective stations besides the message transmitting operation and the data exchange with the mobile transceiver units.
