Abstract

A drop dispensing bottle has numerals marked on its side wall and has a wheel 5 attached to its base, the wheel being manually rotated relative to the bottle to indicate the number of days since the bottle was first opened. Preferably the side wall carries ratchet teeth 4 and the numerals are marked between two adjacent teeth, further ratchet teeth on the wheel allowing the wheel to rotate in one direction only (figure 2). A numeral is visible through a window 5 in the wheel, the final area between the teeth 4 to become visible being marked with Ex (Expired).

Description

EYE / EAR DROP DISPENSING BOTTLE WITH MANUAL DAY COUNTER This invention is related to an eye I ear drop dispensing bottle.
Such dispensing bottles suffer from the disadvantage that once the bottle is opened no accurate method exists to judge the length of time the bottle has been used.
The object of this invention is to provide a manual day counter (1 -28) on the base of the bottle so that the user can accurately judge the expiry date from the 1 sot day of opening.
There is pharmaceutical evidence to prove that therapeutic drug solutions are ineffective once the bottle has been opened for 28 days or more. Most dispensing bottles contain amounts of the medication which would last more than 28 days. Many patients have chronic eye disease, for example, glaucoma. Glaucoma requires treatment with longterm eye drop therapy. Many of these patients continue to use the medication after 28 days. This practice can result in patients vision deteriorating even though they are still using their treatment.
The object of this invention is to provide a built-in facility on the drop dispenser that ensures (providing it is used correctly) the disease will be treated with pharmacologically effective medication.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 Shows a side view of the dispensing bottle with the top unscrewed.
Figure 2 is a horizontal cross-section of the base of the bottle, showing the teeth on the base of the bottle, which holds an indicator wheel with a window and another set of interlocking teeth.
Figure 3 shows a side view of the base of the bottle with the indicator wheel (with window) slipped off. The teeth on the base of bottle are now visible.
The dispensing bottle is a screw top bottle with additional features.
As shown in Figure 1 the dispensing bottle indicates numerically how many days the bottle has been opened. The indicator wheel 1 can only rotate in the direction of the arrow and is rotated manually by the user. The indicator wheel is made from the same material as the bottle.
Each tooth 4 on the base of bottle as shown in figure 2 is designed so the interlocking teeth 3 on the back of the indicator wheel 1 can pass over it easily. Each time the indicator wheel is moved manually the area in between two adjacent teeth 2, comes into view within the indicator window 5. Areas between adjacent teeth are numbered consecutively from 1 - 28 and the final area is marked with Ex (Expired). The window on the indicator wheel is rotated manually by the user to day one, once the seal of the bottle is broken. Each day the user rotates the indicator wheel one notch, thus accurately keeping a record of how many days the bottle has been open.
