Abstract

An 'S' type plug that is usually used to connect 12 volt accessories on a caravan onto the towing vehicles 'S' type socket. The 12 'S' type wiring allocation tester is inserted into the 12 'S' type socket on the towing vehicle and the sequence of the light emitting diodes is noted in order to show the correct operation or malfunction of the wiring upto the 12 'S' socket. This tester is easy to use and can save considerable time spent locating faults or in confirming the correct installation of a newly fitted 12 'S' socket. Instead of the person of the towing vehicle having to remember the correct pin allocation and testing each pin individually they only have to remember the light emitting diode lighting sequence.

Description

12'S' TYPE WIRING ALLOCATION TESTER THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A WIRING ALLOCATION TESTER FOR THE 'S' TYPE SOCKET FITTED TO A VEHICLES TOWBAR AND USED FOR 12 VOLT ACCESSORIES IN A CARAVAN. THE PLUG IS MADE UP USING A READILY-AUAILABLE 'S' TYPE PLUG AND OTHER ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS VEHICLES CAN ALSO HAVE THE 'S' TYPE SOCKET FITTED IF THEY ARE LIKELY TO BE TOWING A CARAVAN THAT HAS 12 VOLT ACCESSORIES AND REQUIRES A 12'S' TYPE SOCKET TO BE FITTED TO THE TOWING VEHICLE.
THIS 12'S' TYPE WIRING ALLOCATION TESTER IS A MODIFIED 12'S' TYPE PLUG THAT IS FITTED INTO THE 12'S' SOCKET AND WHEN THE VARIOUS CIRCUITS BECOME 'LIVE' THE CORRECT OPERATION OR MALFUNCTION OF THE CIRCUITS IS INDICATED BY THE SIX LIGHT EMITTING DIODES FITTED INTO THE REAR END OF THE TESTER.
WHEN A CARAVAN WITH 12 VOLT ACCESSORIES IS HOOKED UP TO THE TOWING VEHICLE THE 12'S' TYPE PLUG OF THE CARAVAN IS PLUGGED INTO THE THE 'S' TYPE SOCKET ON THE TOWING VEHICLE. FOUR OF THE TERMINALS IN THE 'S' TYPE WIRING ARE USED WITH THE OTHER THREE NORMALLY BEING LEFT UN CONNECTED. THE FOUR USED TERMINALS ARE: PIN 2 BLUE CHARGING CURRENT FROM ALTERNATOR TO CARAVAN BATTERY.
PIN 3 WHITE EARTH O/VOLT PIN 4 GREEN DIRECT FROM CAR BATTERY VIA A FUSE. PERMANENT LIVE.
PIN 6 RED REFRIGERATOR. DEAD UNTIL ENGINE RUNS.
PINS 1,5, & 7 ARE NORMALLY UNUSED BUT PIN 1 YELLOW IS SOMETIMES CONNECTED TO THE CARAVANS REVERSING LIGHTS IN CONJUNCTION WITH PIN 5 BROWN, WHICH IS USED AS A REVERSING LIGHT INDICATOR.
THE PERSON USING THE 12'S' TYPE WIRING ALLOCATION TESTER WILL BE REQUIRED TO KNOW HOW THAT PARTICULAR 12'S' SOCKET IS WIRED UP ON THE TOWING VEHICLE IN ORDER FOR THE CORRECT OPERATION TO BE VERIFIED BY THE LIGHT EMITTING DIODES.
12 'S' TYPE WIRING ALLOCATION TESTER DETAILS OF PIN ALLOCATIONS, WIRE COLOURS, CIRCUIT DIAGRAM, AND COMPONENTS USED, AS WELL ASDETAILS OF THE CORRECT STATE OF THE LIGHT EMITTING DIODE FOR EACH CIRCUIT ARE AS LISTED BELOW.

12'S' TYPE WIRING ALLOCATION TESTER
CLAIMS 1 AN 'S' TYPE PLUG THAT HAS BEEN MODIFIED WITH ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS AS IN FIGURES 3,4, & IN ORDER TO TEST THE CORRECT ALLOCATION AND OPERATION OF AN 'S' TYPE SOCKET FITTED TO A VEHICLES TOWING BRACKET.
2 AN 'S' TYPE PLUG THAT HAS BEEN MODIFIED WITH ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS AS IN FIGURES 3,4, & IN ORDER TO HELP LOCATE FAULTS WHEN A CARAVANS 12 VOLT ACCESSORY CIRCUITS ;MALFUNCTION..
3.AN 'S' TYPE PLUG THAT HAS BEEN MODIFIED WITH ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS AS IN FIGURES 3 4 & 5 IN ORDER TO HELP IN THE CORRECT ALLOCATION AN OPERATION OF STANDARD AND NON STANDARD WIRING DURING INSTALLATION OF AN 'S' TYPE SOCKET.
THIS TESTER IS ALSO LESS PRONE TO FAULTS ITSELF BECAUSE LIGHT EMITTING DIODES ARE USED INSTEAD OF PANEL LAMPS THAT ARE LIKELY TO SUFFER FROM ELEMENT RUPTURE DUE TO SHOCK AND VIBRATION.
3 AN 'S' TYPE PLUG THAT HAS BEEN MODIFIED WITH ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS AS IN FIGURES 3,4, & IN ORDER TO HELP IN THE CORRECT ALLOCATION AND OPERATION OF WIRING TO AN 'S' TYPE SOCKET DURING INSTALLATION.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows
12 'S' TYPE WIRING ALLOCATION TESTER CLAIMS 1. AN 'S' TYPE PLUG THAT HAS BEEN MODIFIED WITH ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS AS IN FIGURES 3 4 & 5 IN ORDER TO TEST THE CORRECT ALLOCATION OF AN 'S' TYPE SOCKET FITTED TO A VEHICLES TOWING BRACKET.
2. AN 'S' TYPE PLUG THAT HAS BEEN MODIFIED WITH ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS AS IN FIGURES 3 4 & 5 IN ORDER TO HELP LOCATE FAULTS WHEN A CARAVANS 12 VOLT ACCESSORY CIRCUITS MALFUNCTION. UNLIKE THE THREE LIGHT EMITTING DIODE 12 'N'TESTER, THIS TESTER IS ALSO ABLE TO HELP IN LOCATING FAULTS ON NON-STANDARD ACCESSORY WIRING DUE TO ITS INDIVIDUAL LIGHT EMITTING DIODE FOR EACH WIRING CIRCUIT.
