Abstract
A herbicide applicator uses a sponge/foam material as a medium to absorb and deliver herbicides onto weeds/crops being treated. The sponge/foam application material may be mounted along a boom. A comb may be carried behind the boom to spread the herbicide evenly.
Description
SPECIFICATION RE: WEEDSPONGER
The Needsponger is a Herbicide Applicator designed to treat weeds when there is sufficient grass clearance. At this stage weeds only are caught be the Sponge/Foam
Bearing Boom, as against blanket treatment using a Sprayer. Small amounts of chemical and water are required using this system. The storage tanks are carried on the main frame at approximately four and a half feet over the Boom and the herbicide is delivered to the sponge/foam by means of a 12v pump. There are three storage tanks. The three storage tanks as against one larger tank allows smaller amounts of wash (chemical water) to be made up at a time, and/or different chemical bearing wash being carried at the same time.
Undemeath the storage tanks is a reservoir tank which feeds the 12v pump.
The boom is twelve feet wide in three foldable sections. The boom itself is made from channel iron. The floor ofthe channel iron is crossed at right angles at every four to five inches witb half inch high partitions to stop chemical from running from side to side. In the floor of the channel between each partition are four half inch holes to allow the chemical down onto the sponge/foax Each of the three sections has ten valves. Behind the boom is carried the combs, in three foldable sections. The combs have teeth at one inch intern alps and brush the crop after treatment. This is to spread the chemical more thoroughly through the crop. On each end of the boom there is a slide. This raises the sections ofthe boom, when uneven ground is encountered.
The spongelfoam is encased in three inch mesh. This is to keep the spongelfoam in its original shape.

- CLAIMS Re: WEEDSPONGERThe Weedsponger is a herbicide applicator using a 12v pump system to feed the main sponge/foam bearing beam. The use of sponge/foam as the medium of delivery of the herbicide to the crop is the novel feature of this machine.CLAIM II: The comb/s which is carried behind the main beam brushes through the treated crop spreading the herbicide evenly through heavy crops, is also a novel feature of this machine.
