Description
- 1.1 2304830 1 High-pressure fuel pump for an internal combustion engine
The invention relates to a high-pressure fuel pump for an internal combustion engine, with a pump piston actuatable by the cam of a camshaft via a roller tappet and which, during the inwards stroke, acts counter to the force of a prestressed spring element, of which one end is supported, on the tappet side, on a spring plate and the other end is supported on a support body.
German Auslegeschrift 11 07 025 and DE 34 09 295 C2 disclose a highpressure fuel pump of this type for internal combustion engines, in which the tappet-side support body serving for supporting the spring element constitutes at the same time a limitation for an oil-pressure space, into which liquid can flow between the support body and the roller tappet in dependence on the respective position of the roller tappet. The support body, acting as a piston, can thereby be raised relative to the roller tappet counter to the force of the spring element, with the result that a variation in the injection time occurs, since the pump piston cuts off or closes the inflow control bore earlier by means of its control edge located on the end face.
The present invention seeks to develop a highpressure fuel pump of this type in such a way that the drive power of the camshaft and the wear on the cam and the roller of the roller tappet are reduced.
According to the present invention there is provided a high-pressure fuel pump for an internal combustion engine, with a pump piston actuatable by a cam of a camshaft via a roller tappet and which, when acuated by the cam, acts counter to the force of a prestressed spring element biassing the roller tappet into contact with the cam, of which one end is supported, on the tappet side, on a spring plate and the other end is supported on an adjustable support body, wherein the prestressing force of the spring element is, with increasing rotational speed of the engine, 2 adapted to be raised by means of the support body being loadable with pressure in dependence on said rotational speed.
Preferably, the pressure-loadable support body comprises an annular body guided approximately level with the longitudinal centre of the pump piston.
In such a case, the annular body is, preferably mounted longitudinally displaceably in a pump casing in a correspondingly adapted annular recess and, on its side facing away from the spring element, forms, together with the pump casing, a sealed-off pressure space connected to a pressure control conduit.
The spring element may consist of a shape memory alloy or a coil compression spring.
The measures according to the invention prevent in a simple way unnecessarily high spring forces from acting on the cam in a rotational speed range which is below the maximum rotational speed of the camshaft. Thus, despite the use of a relatively weak spring, the press-on system dependent on rotational speed reliably guarantees that the roller tappet bears uniformly on the cam.
In the known high-pressure fuel pump, the spring force pressing the roller tappet onto the cam is designed for the maximum rotational speed of the camshaft, in order, at high rotational speeds, to prevent a liftingoff of the roller tappet from the cam and consequently disturbances in the feed and injection characteristics.
The subject of the invention is represented in the drawing and is explained in more detail below by means of an exemplary Figure 1 Figure 2 embodiment. In the drawing: shows a high-pressure fuel pump with positioning of the pressure-loadable support body at low rotational speeds of the camshaft, and shows positioning of the support body at high rotational speeds of the camshaft.
A cam-actuated high-pressure fuel pump 1, which is 3 provided for internal combustion engines and which can, for example, be a solenoid-controlled plug-in pump for commonrail systems, consists of a roller tappet 4, driven by the cam 2 of a camshaft 3, for actuating a simple pump piston 5 without control edges controlling the fuel quantity. The pump 1 has a spring element 6 which is designed as a compression spring and which is supported, on the one hand, on a spring plate 8 lying on the bottom 7 of the cup-shaped tappet 4a and, on the other hand, on a support body 9 which is arranged approximately level with the longitudinal centre of the pump piston 5 and which, being designed as an annular body, is guided longitudinally displaceably in the pump casing 11 in an annular recess 10 adapted to the annular body and is sealed by means of sealing rings 12, 13.
The annular body, on its side facing away from the spring element 6, forms, together with the pump casing 11, a pressure space 14 which is connected to a control conduit 15. Oil is conveyed via this control conduit 15 out of the lubricating-oil circuit of the internal combustion engine (not shown) into the pressure space 14.
The oil pressure acting on the annular body 9 is generated by a pressure pump 16, for example a gear pump, which builds up the necessary pressure in dependence on the engine speed. Thus, with an increase in rotational speed of the camshaft 3, the roller 4b of the roller tappet 4 is pressed, via the annular body 9 and the spring element 6, with an exactly defined pressure force onto the cam 2 in conformity with the rising oil pressure in the pressure space 14. A reliable bearing of the roller tappet 4 on the cam 2 is achieved by means of the prestressing force dependent on rotational speed.
With decreasing rotational speed of the camshaft, the pressure in the pressure space 14 subsides, the annular body 9 moves back correspondingly, and the spring element 6 relaxes and consequently reduces the pressure of the roller 4b on the cam 2.
4 The sealing rings 12, 13 on the annular body 9, which are designed as so- called 0-rings, ensure substantially fault-free functioning.
However, the spring element 6, which is designed as a compression spring in the exemplary embodiment represented, can also consist of a shape memory alloy which changes its properties with increasing frequency in relation to the rotational speed of the camshaft, to the effect that the spring rigidity (spring constant) increases and therefore also guarantees that the roller tappet 4 bears reliably on the cam 2.
The shape memory alloy thus ensures that the spring element 6 is softer at low rotational speeds, but harder at high rotational speeds.
