Abstract

A Cup Feeder for dispensing bait accurately and safely to a target area. The feeder is arranged so that it may selectively be opened and closed by rotating the pole Fig 4. In use the feeder utilises the influences of gravity to keep the cup safely closed Fig 4. until it is caused to open at the desired area. Attachment to the pole is by means of an arrangement that will securely mount the feeder to any size of pole tip.

Description

Description: Cup Feeder A Cup Feeder is a device for dispensing fishing bait accurately to a target area via attachment to the tip of a fishing pole.
A Cup feeder would generally comprise of an open plastic container mounted to the pole by means of a clip located on the bottom of the container, the pole tip is inserted into the clip and the container moved along the pole until the clip tightens against the taper of the pole tip. This position could be anywhere within a metre of the pole tip, according to make and model.
The container is then filled with bait and the pole held with the container in an upright position, the pole is then pushed out to the target area where the pole is rotated until the bait empties from the container.
The length of the poles vary from a few metres up to sixteen metres long.
The drawbacks to using this type of cupfeeder are, spillage of bait due to bounce and vibration as the pole is pushed out, vibration causing the clip to loosen its grip on the taper, and the container slipping and spilling bait short of the target area, and the location of the container being limited to one certain position on the pole tip.
The requirements therefore are,a container that may be selectively opened and closed.
method of mounting arranged so tat should the grip on the pole fail the container would remain in a safe, closed position.
A method of releasably mounting that would locate the container in any position along the pole tip.
According to the present invention there is provided a device for dispeiising fishing bait, the device comprising a container for containing bait to be dispensed, and a closure member for selectively closing the container, the container and closure member being arranged for relative movement between a first condition in which the container is closed and a second condition in which the container is open, the relative movement of the container aiid closure member being affected by selective rotation of the device to cause one of said container and closure member to move relative to the other under the influence of gravity.
Further according to the present invention there is provided an arrangement for mounting an article to a support, the arrangement comprising a first, fixed member attached to tlie article, and a second member movably attached to the first member by resilient means, the second member being movable between a first position in which the second member is located on one side of the first member with the resilient means in a substantially relaxed condition in which the article is movable onto and off a support, and a second position in which the second member is located on another side of tlic first member with the resilient means located in tension around the support to mount the article to the support with the first member held against the support.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now bw described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Fig 1. Shows the component parts of two examples.
Fig 2. Shows the assembled form of two examples.
Fig 3. Shows the arrangement for mounting.
Fig 4. Shows the cup feeder mounted on the pole in the closed condition two examples.
Refereing to the drawing Fig 1. examples 1 & 2.the cup feeder comprises a container I adapted by means of opposing slots 2 to accomodate a closure member 3 the slots having clearance to allow relative movement between the container and the closure member, the relative movement is controlled by limit formations 4 comprised in the closure member. The limit formations will locate the closure member in either of the two conditions relative to the opening 5 in the container, a first closed condition.
Fig 2. examples 1 & 2.where the blank portion 6 of the closure member is located over the opening of the container, and a second open condition where the aperture 7 in the closure member is located over the opening in the container.Fig 2. shows two examples of the first closed condition.
Means of releasably mounting the Cup Feeder to the pole 8 Fig 3.
A & B is supplied by a first fixed member 9 rigidly attached to the closure member Fig 1. example 1. or rigidly attached to the container Fig 1. example 2.and a second movable member 10 attached to the first member by an elastic band. 11 Fig 1.
examples 1 & 2, Fig 2. examples 1 2.
In order to attach the mounting to the pole 8 Fig 3. tulle pole is inserted between the first and second member Fig 3A then the second member is rotated around the pole until it locates on the opposite side of the first member Fig 3.6 In order to use the Cup Feeder as shown in Fig 2. example it the device is first mounted to the pole, the container is then located in the second condition on the closure member where the container is filled with bait. The container is then allowed to locate in the first condition on the closure member where it is held under influence of gravity see Fig 4. example 1. The pole is then rotated, causing the container to locate in the second condition and allowing the bait to be emptied from the container.
Fig 2. example 2,use is as above in this case rotation of the pole causes the closure member to locate in the second condition allowing the bait to be emptied from the container.
Removal is a simple reversal of the mounting procedure.

1. A device for dispensing fishing bait, the device comprising a container for containing bait to be dispensed, and a closure member for selectively closing the container, the container and closure member being arranged for relative movement between a first condition in which the container is closed and a second condition in which the container is open, tlie relative movelllellt of the container and closure member being effected by selective rotation of the device to cause one of said container and closu re member to move relative to the other under the influence of gravity, mounting means is provided fop releasably mounting the device to a support ,which support may comprise an elonteate member, such as a fishing pole, the device being mounted such that rotation of the support causes rotation of the device and thereby said relative movement of the closure member aid conta iner between the first and second conditions
2. a device as claimed in claim 1 wherein the mounting means comprises a fixed first member rigidly attached to one of tulle container or closure member, and a second member movably atta ched to tJie fixed member by resilient means, and movable between a first position in which the second member is located on one side of the fixed member with the resilient means in n substa ntially relaxed condition in which the device is movable onto and off a support, and a second position in which tulle second member is located on anotlier side of the fixed member witll the resilient means located in tension around the support to mount tlie device to the support with the fixed member held against tlie support.
3. a device as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the res ilient means may comprise an elastic or rubber band nttaclled between tlie fixed and second mernbers.
4. A device as claimed in claim 2 or 3 wherein the closure member comprises first and second portions, the second portion comprising an aperture which is located over the opening in the container when the device is in the second condition the first portion being located over the opening when the device is in the first condition.
5. A device as claimed in claim 4 wherein two opposing slots are provided in the container in which tie closure member is located, to retain t1ie container and closure member together whilst permitting said relative movement one or both of the closure member and container may comprise formations to limit relative movement of the member and con-tainer to between tie said first and second conditions.
