Abstract

A self-contained air compressor 1 located on anti-vibration pads is fixed to a wagon. High pressure pipework 2 is connected to the compressor, taken down through the chassis and linked to horizontal steel manifold ducts 3 behind the wheels and nozzles 5. The railway wagon is coupled to a locomotive and driven along the section of the track to be cleared. Numeral 6 denotes rails.

Description

RAILWAY TRACK CLEARING UNIT This invention relates to a railway track clearing unit.
The problems associated with leaves covering railway lines causing disruption to services, particularly during autumn and winter, on the rail network have been evident for quite some time now.
The pro:)oseo invention to address this is sue is to use a stand alone compressed air unit fixed onto a railway wagon.
Pipework is laid from the compressor down to manifold ducts positioned behind the wheels under the wagon. Discharge pipes fro the manifold ducts arc angled dozen towards the rail track. The discharge pipes have suiable spray nozzles fitted at the ends.
A.specific embodiment of the invention will no be described by way of exaaple with reference to the accompanying drains in which:- Figure I so in orthographic projection a side elevation of the compressor nit and associated pipework in position on a rail wagon.
Figure 2 illustrates a plan vie of the general arrangement.
Figure 3 depicts the front elevation of the wagon.
Figure 4 shows in isometric projection the wagon with the compressor in position.
Referring to the drawings, the track clearing unit comprises a self contained compressed air unit I located on antivibration pads and fixed to the wagon. High pressure sipework 2 connected to the compressor is laid horizontally along'the wagon and is taken down through the base and linked to horizontal steel manifold ducts 3 behind the wheels Discharge pipes 4 with suitably designed spray nozzles 5 are secured to the manifolaq and angled dovn towards the railway tracks 6 as shown. The railway wagon is attached to the front of the locomotive and is pushed along the section of track to be clear.
The track clearing unit is actuated bt means of a stoD/ start control box mountea on the
Compressed air at a set bar pressure rating is forced down the pipework, through the manifold and out of the nozzles over the railway lines to clear any leaves or debris.
