Abstract
A locking system comprises a bar, one end (11) of which is secured inside a building whilst the other end (12) protrudes through to the outside thereof and is adapted to be secured by a locking means (17, 18, 19, 20) affixed thereto, a lockable cover (20) being provided exteriorly of the building to conceal the bar and its locking device. Preferably the bar is L-shaped, the vertical arm (11) of which is housed a base (13) secured to the floor or ceiling of the building whilst the horizontal arm (12) is adapted to protrude to the exterior thereof. <IMAGE>
Description
The present invention relates to security locks for the outside of buildings such as garages, outhouses etc.
It has been found that conventional padlocks are vulnerable to atlack. For example, the screws securing the mountings are on the outside of the building and can be easily unscrewed, the padlock shank can be sawn through or the lock picked.
An object of the present invention is to provide a robust security system which is more vandal proof than heretofore.
According to the present invention a locking system comprises a bar,one end of which is secured inside a building whilst the other end protrudes through to the outside thereof and is adapted to be secured by a locking means affixed thereto, a lockable cover being provided exteriorly of the building to conceal the bar and its locking device.
Preferably, the bar is L-shaped, the vertical arm of which is housed in a base secured to the floor or ceiling of the building, whilst the horizontal arm is adapted to protrude to the exterior thereof.
For certain doors, it is necessary for the base to be pivotally secured to the floor or ceiling.
To enable the locking means to be secured to the bar, the horizontal arm thereof is grooved adjacent its outer end which is adapted to protrude to the exterior of the building.
The locking means may comprise a plate with an inner circular bore, a plurality of spring loaded blades being provided on the periphery or the bore which are adapted to close into the groove and retractable therefrom by weans of all actualor provided on the outer side of the plate.
The rear surface of the lockable cover may be secured to the building by means, such as screws, which are screened by tic cover itself.
The cover is preferably in two parts, the rear @ace thereof being provided with a slot adapted to pass over the @@ter end of the bar prior to the attachment of the locking means, a hinged lid of the cover being closeable and lockable so as lo conceal the Inain locking device.
The invention will now be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: jig 1 shows details of tile various integers comprising the complete security system; and
Fig. 2 is a detail of the mounfing of the hingeable luck covet'.
As shown in Fig. 1, a lock comprises a right-angled bar Il. g c the vertical shank 11 of wiich fits into a base or flange assembly 13 secured, for example to the floor or ceiling oil tiic insicle of a building. The parls 11 and 13 can be secured together with a pin (not shown) passing through complementary slots 14, 15. The slot 15 can be provided at any convenient position to suit the floor or ceiling height. The part 12 of the bar at right-angles to the shank 11 is adapted to protrude throbgh the wall, partition or door and is provided with a circular groove 16 near its outer extremity.
A locking assembly compriscs a plate 17 with an inner circular bore 1U. A pluralily of spring loaded blades 19 are provided on the poriphery of the bore 18 and are adapted to close into the groove 16 of the right-angled bar part 12. Retraction of the blades 19 can be effected.
by turning a key 20.
A lock cover 21, in the form of a hingeable box.
shown closed in Fig. 1 but in the open position in Fig. 2 is secured at a convenient height relative to the bar 11, 12 by screwing into a partition 22 as shown in Fig. 2.
The right-angled part 12 passes through the partition and through a complementary slot 23 in the cover box 21.
The slot is of greater size than the bar part 12.
To secure the locking device in position it is necessary to pass the right-angled part 12 through the partilion and slot 23 and attach the plate 17 with its spring loaded blades 19 entering the groove 1G, close the lid cover and secured it in position with a lock 24.
