Abstract

229,367. Fortway, R. C., and Goswell Engineering Co., Ltd. Oct. 23, 1923. Grease cartridges for use in grease guns &c. A flexible longitudinally split case 1 of thin sheet metal, cardboard, &c. is provided with end plugs 8, 9 of paper or cardboard which are sealed by dipping into molten paraffin wax or the like, and with an external wrapping 5 of paper or the like furnished with tearing strips 6. The longitudinal edges 3 overlap, as shown in Fig. 3, and may be bevelled One end 2 of the case 1 is flared to facilitate the entry of the plunger 15 of the syringe. Prior to insertion of the cartridge into the barrel 10 of the syringe, the wrapping 5 is removed. The cartridge may be compressed, after removal of the plugs 8, 9, to fit syringe barrels of various diameters. If the cartridge is designed so that, when expanded by pressure in the barrel, the edges 3, 3 meet, the plugs are not removed, and pressure of the plunger against the plug 8 causes the contents of the cartridge to burst through the paper plug 9.
