Abstract

A ceramic or similar shaving device, eg. a ceramic bladed wet-razor, of which the blade 1 is constructed from a ceramic or similar material that has been moulded and sharpened. Included in the forming of the blade is a comb-like encasement 2 of the blade which provides a larger degree of safety. The blade is releasably secured to the tang 3 so enabling the upgrading of blades as and when necessary. The blade fastening 3a also allows a limited rotational movement of the blade at axis A. A which is sprung by a flexible material located within the shank 4. The pivoted handle 6, pivoted to the tang at 5, is designed to assist the user in operation of the shaving device ergonomically, and provide a means of protection whilst folded through axis B.B when the device is in transit or not in use. <IMAGE>

Description

CERAMIC OR SIMILAR SHAVING DEVICE.
This invention relates to a ceramic or similar shaving device.
Historically, razors intended for shaving use have been constructed mainly from metal and, of late have been coated with plastic or ceramic material.
Where these various coatings have enhanced the performance and possibly prolonged the life-span of the blade there has still been the requirement to replace the blades regularly. It is widely known that ceramic razors have a considerably lengthier life-span than its metal counterparts, and that they have previously been utilised in industrial environments such as surgical tools and as cutting devices in manufacture.
Existing shaving razor blades, due to their expendable nature are expensive in the long term both financially and environmentally and are a relative inconvenience to the user.
According to the present invention, their is provided a 'semi-open' razor. It provides an effective means of removing hair without the absence of safety that has been associated with previous devices. This safety facility is provided by embodying the blade within a comb-like arrangement that is a consequence of moulding, after which the razor is formed by grinding/polishing the depressed surfaces in between the combs at the blades edge.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1. Shows in perspective, the safety configuration of the ceramic blade fitted removably in its tang, and the way in with it can swivel about its axis.
Figure 1. Also shows an example of the type of folding handle that has been adapted for ergonomic considerations.
Referring to the drawing the razor comprises an ergonomically formed handle 6. which assists in both the users control and in portability; which is fixed by a two-or more position hinge or pivot to the tang 3. or similar. Blades are removable to allow for differing graduations in blades so that size, weight and thickness may be adjusted in order to compensate for specific hair growth conditions etc.
Safety of the otherwise open blade is achieved by incorporating a comb-like arrangement 2. that protects the user from the blades cutting surfaces.

Claims (8)

1. A ceramic or similar shaving device that incorporates a safety device that is achieved by encasing the blade via an integrally formed comb-like arrangement.
2. A ceramic or similar shaving device as claimed in claim 1. wherein removal of the blade is provided by sliding the blade from the tang that has one open-end when pressure is applied to the near- side vertical edge of the blade.
3. A ceramic or similar shaving device as claimed in claim 1. or claim 2.
wherein the blade can have limited lateral rotation in order to adjust to physical contours and undulations along the blades longest axis.
4. A ceramic or similar shaving device as claimed in claim 1. or claim 2.
wherein the blades may be upgraded as necessary, enabling the changing of the blades easily in order to compensate for changing circumstances in hair growth or type, or blade damage etc.
5. A ceramic or similar shaving device as claimed in claim 2. or claim 4.
wherein a flexible material incorporated into the shank that removably locates with the blade and provides a means of returning the blade to a central position.
6. A ceramic or similar shaving device as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the body is provided with at least one hinged point that enables the razor and its shank to be folded into a control handle whilst in transit or disuse.
7. A ceramic or similar shaving device as claimed in claim 6. wherein the handle is ergonomically formed so as to be convenient to the user whilst the device is in operation.
8. A ceramic or similar shaving device substantially described herein with reference to figure 1. of the accompanying drawing.
